Hand-pulled pint at The Shakespeare, Coalport on the river Severn on 24 Aug 2013. Good amber/auburn coloured body, clear. The head white and full, showed some good lacing. Malted biscuity aroma, hints of toffee and caramel if you sniff long and hard enough, no hop content nose wise. Semi-sweet taste, as the smell suggested, the maltiness winning out over anything else. A hop bitterness does appear as the mouth dries. I think I enjoyed the slightly stronger bottled version.

Another ducking boring Engkiah Alw. How many do I have to drink at GBBF? It’s a mystery to me.

Hand-pulled half-pint in Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 1st Aug 2013. My half-pint came pale gold with a small, thin white covering and had an apple type aroma: I found it weak flavoured thin and ’not good’. It was the worst beer I had during my nine cask beer outing that night. Mild citrus feel to the brew, but I couldn’t find any of the exciting ingredients the brewery claims are used. In short a disappointing beer that I thought might be interesting, but for me wasn’t. Maybe the flavours were too delicate for my palate to pick up? Scored objectively.

Small white head. Clear amber body. Earthy vinous aroma with spicy grainy notes. Dry fruity earthy spicy taste with floral grainy notes. Mid-to-light body. Mild, soft, flat mouthfeel. Dryish earthy spicy fruity aftertaste with honey and vaguely funky notes. Interesting and unusual, but not that good. (0.568l cask at John Scott’s Pub, Göteborg.)

Cask at The Prince of Wales on Kensington Church Street. Pours dark amber with orange glints and a slight beige head. Aroma is darkly malty. Med body. Flavor is floral, pretty roasted malt, and maybe a touch of citrus. Possibly even grapefruit rind. It gets more bitter with time.

Festival cask ale, one-third pint on a sample tray at J DW The Welkin. Beige thin head. Clear golden-brown body. Laces well. Pale malts and floral hops to the nose. Taste of herbal hops on a grainy backbone to the taste buds. Fruit bitter tail. Fined bodied. Foamy in the mouth and a bit floury. Satisfying with the breakfast (Liverpool, 08.04.2013).
