Description
At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.

Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

Cask at the Wharf. A dark amber colored beer without head. Lightly oxidized on the nose, nutty, raisiny and with some bready notes. Some piney hints. It’s soft on the palate, medium bodied, and with a pleasant bitterness. Bread hints, dried fruits and some piney notes in the flavor. Short, bready and lightly bitter finish. Quite pleasant. 120624

Bottle. A clear, dark golden to light amber beer topped by a small, dense, light beige head. Some lacings occur. The aroma is citrusy and grassy, with biscuity malts and pine cone notes. The flavor has caramel, or toffee, with pale malts, pine cones and some grass, and a pleasant bitterness. Medium to full body, quite dryish. Lasting bitter finish with some fruityness. A quite decent one. 120623

Bottle. A clear, dark golden beer with a small, dense, off-white to white head. Biscuity, almost bready nose with fruityness and some grass hints. Medium body, soft carbonation and semi-sweet. Some sweetness in the flavor, with biscuity malts and a fruity touch. Short finish with the same elements found initially. Drinkable indeed, but I’d prefer lots of other beers to this. 120623
