Description
Fort George Brewery + Public House sits on the original settlement site of Fort Astoria, founded in 1811. The oldest US settlement west of the Rockies, Fort Astoria was the Pacific Fur Company's primary trading post in the Northwest. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. We take pride in our house-made offerings and our hospitality, and we’re always looking for improvements that bring us one step closer to perfection. It’s a goal Sisyphus could appreciate, even if he doesn’t have as much fun pushing that rock as we do rolling those kegs. And that’s why we like to call Fort George beer the best beer you’ve had today. Tomorrow it will only be better.

16oz can pours out hazy golden topped with a white head. Nose is nice over ripe citrus hops some light tropical notes. Taste is more of the nice sweet over ripe citrus mango and some chalk on the end.

Black colour. It has a fruity molasses aroma that I associate with Cambodian stout. If you ever rode a shitty rental bike from Siem Reap to Ankgor Wat at dawn feeling crusty as fuck after overindulging on Black Panther Stout and happy pizza, you know what I mean. Stout de Cambodge is etched into your soul. Thick body, vanilla and lactose sort of thing. Mellow bourbon, sort of rounds it out.

Draft pour pint enjoyed at Elliott Bay Pizza, Mill Creek. After growing slightly impatient with finding a cold IPA that truly stood out as exceptional, I had to find this one, per mcberko's recommendation. Clean and bright golden appearance, piney and melon hop aroma explode from the glass. Cool melon and piney front, with just enough bite to keep this mildly aggressive and ultimately inviting. Piney, oily hops really work nicely with the juicier melon and citrus side. Cold or not, this is how IPA is supposed to be. Expecting greatness from Fort George, this really puts the other brewer on my radar beyond just having heard of them. A 4.6 though??? Yeah, it's a 4.6.

16 oz. can, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is jam-packed with fragrant NZ hoppy goodness - so much white wine, melon, piney hops - damn that's nice. Flavour is no less expressive, with intense piney hop goodness, some white wine tang, melon, and plenty of spicy, grassy bitterness on the finish. This is seriously awesome - so much NZ hoppy decadence, so clean, biting, and crisp. One of the best IPAs I've had in recent years.
