About
Founded as the Boulder Brewing Company in 1979 as the first craft brewery in Colorado; it started brewing the following year. In 1990, the company changed its name to Boulder Beer Company. In 1993 the company again renamed itself as the Rockies Brewing Company. In 2005, the company again changed its name back to the Boulder Beer Company.
In January 2020 the brewpub closed but through a new partnership with Sleeping Giant Brewing Company in Denver, who will continue to brew, package and distribute the Boulder Beer brands to the retail market, the brand will stay alive.

Bottled@SBWF2014. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is bready, earthy, mildly herbal and some grassy notes. Flavour is wooden, mildly floral along with some biscuits, cookies and mild bready malts to it. A bit cellary notes too.

On tap, fairly clean neutral sterile aroma. Look is pretty dark. Taste is stronger leathery flavor that turns slightly medicinal. Nice lacing. Yes there is a fest feel about it but why does it have to be in yer face? Overall, just an over the top strong oktoberfest that is difficult to take.

Bottle....mahogany on the pour...small white foam...and some dots of lacing....citrus aroma(orange)...malts with bready rye thing happening....its an odd combo....im a brown beer fan ...but the hops over power the brown in this one...its an interesting creation and after it opens for a while it improves....where then I taste just hops on the front..then a brown ale finish...sticky on the lips...rating from 3-2-2010

Bottled@SBWF2014. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma and flavour are both quite sweet plummy and syrupy with some slight sweet alcohol, toffee and caramel to it. Not the most exciting Barley Wine around, but should work well as a dessert beer thanks to it’s rather big sweetness.

22 oz. Color is a murky amber gold with an orange hue, thin head in the tulip. Aroma is honey with honey and more honey.

The flavor has caramel, sweet bready malts and sugar. The body has some yeastiness with honey of course. Very sweet without being completely cloying. ABV is hidden throughout. The classification of a Belgian Strong ale is correct. I like it but it is very simple, more like a carbonated mead.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized creamy beige head that left decent lacing. The aroma was faint sweet malts and a touch of tangy caramel. The flavor was tangy, malty and bready with caramel and a bit of golden fruits. Long malt, bread and fruit finish. Moderately full bodied. Alcohol well contained. Decent.
