On tap at the Gertrude Hotel, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out Belgian yeast and piney hops in good mix. Flavour is along the same lines, with Belgian yeast, piney hops, some light banana and biscuity malt. Really good marriage of the Belgian yeast and hops. Very good.

From a 330mml bottle on 12/1/2015. Pours a cloudy dark golden with a small head. The nose is fruity and boozy. Flavour wise, is very sweet and fruity - figs, raisins, dates, mandarin, peach and pineapple, with some light caramel in the mix. The bitterness is sharp and tart (lemon) with a big warming booziness finishing things off. The texture is quite syrupy and the carbonation prickly. A bit agricultural and lacking in subtlety and cohesion for mine.

From a 330ml bottle on 30/12/2015. Pours near black with virtually no big. The aroma is very malty - toffee, molasses and toast, with some dark fruit and spice. Taste wise, this is full of character. Lots of caramel, chocolate and toffee, more molasses, some licorice, cherries and plums. The texture is a touch syrupy and the carbonation soft. This has more than a touch of Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout about it. Complex, rich and satisfying. We Aussies have begun to kick some arse when it comes to producing quality IPAs but there appears to be less appetite to do big stouts. This is a very welcome exception and I will definitely be consuming omore if I can get hold of it.

Wrapped 330ml bottle, 12C. Slightly hazy brown with a light beige head that never quite disappears. Aroma is funky with tart berries, lemon, damp wood, bark. Light bodied with berries and lemon, a little caramel. Slightly slippery, very alive. Moderately sour with some herbal notes and a gentle woody finish. Lovely and deeply refreshing.

Pours ruby-tinted copper with a small white head.Nose shows some funk and oak along with a chocolate cookie note, bready and nutty malt. Very english.Flavours include more English malt characters as above along with a subtle berry note and a very faint acidity.Totally different to what I expected. Halfway between an English mild and a strong brown ale.

Small, wrapped bottle, 12C. Very dark brown with a light tan head that’s never less than a coat. Aroma of stewed and dried fruit - figs, raisins, prunes- molasses, mocha, fruit cake spices, grass. Just short of syrupy, lowish carbonation. Sweet and very fruity with supporting gentle roasty flavours. Dryish finish with lovely lightening grassy/ spicy bitterness. A little woody after a while and the bitterness creeps up. Agree it’s Old Ale-ish, but pretty hoppy. Lovely beer.

Pours dark brown, black in the glass. Quite light for an imperial stout.Nose shows nutty malt, chocolate and some very soft roast. Loads of caramel and sultana too.Flavours are a little roastier but still seem to lack any punch or depth. Loads more sweetness, almost like an old ale crossed with a barleywine. a little solvent-like in the finish.

Pours dark brown with a very small head.Nose shows coffee and caramel in massive quantities along with chocolate notes. Pretty awesome.More coffee as flavours along with an acidic note and a hit of chocolate. The acidic note is misplaced.Very low carbonation, needs much more. Feels watery.

Reddish brown with a modest light beige head. Aroma of bread, nuts, coffee, chocolate. Medium bodied, less doughy and cleaner than suggested by the aroma. Nice coffee, some chocolate, oily nuts, grapes. Slight bitterness, a little herbal. Fruitiness seems to come from the coffee. Not much like any dubbel I’ve had, but pretty tasty.
