Description
Hope Brewery opened in 2014, and kicked off their range with a whole lot of hoppy ales, distinctively recognisable by their black cans and amp design - a homage to Hope's love of music. Since then they've been satisfying a desire for new beers and new styles including NEIPAs, sours, trophy-winning stouts and even Australia's strongest IPA.

Draft. A brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, and a bit of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and lacto, leading to a bitter finish.

From a 375 ml can on 25/11/2018. Pours a deep brown with a medium head. The aroma is roasty, fruity and chocolatey. Taste wise, it's quite intense. There's sweet chocolate, and quite a bit of dark fruit, a bit of toffee, and finishes off with a mild roasty bitterness. It tastes big, but perhaps not quite 11.1%. Fullish bodied with moderate carbonation. A pleasant, slightly dessert like big sipper.

Pint on tap at Basement Brewhouse, Bankstown. Golden amber beer with foamy white head. Medium carbonation. Very light nose of perfumed malt. Nice lacing. Light, fruity, more hints of perfume. Dry with a fizzy dry finish. Lingering dry white wine finish. Not really my thing but I appreciate the effort.

Pint on tap at Basement Brewhouse, Bankstown. Pale amber beer with a thin white head and a little carbonation. Smells of caramel bananas and dough. Laces well. Fruity, creamy, lightweight but easy to slam. Uncomplicated quaffer with just a touch of late bitterness to balance it.

Can. Dirty amber with a coat of pale beige head. 3- Aroma of pine, grapefruit, bread. Bitter and resinous but with a soft bready malt that is enough to hold it without being heavy. Citrus and some peach stand out before pine kicks in with the bitterness at the end. Likeable but perhaps doesn't offer enough for 9.5%. Suggestion seems to be that there's a splash of Chardonnay juice in this - let's say if so it's very well integrated.

From a 375ml can on 17/10/2018. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a big white head. The aroma features mild spice and some Belgian yeast. Taste wise, there's light biscuit malt, a good dash of sweet citrus and stone fruit, finished off by the reasonably firm quite spicy, slightly dry bitterness. Medium bodied. My only real quibble is that it was just a touch over-carbed. All up though, quite flavoursome, well balanced and enjoyable.

From a 375ml can on 30/8/2018 (ABV listed as 5.0%, not 5.5%). Pours a cola colour with a small head. The nose features a bit of chocolate, some caramel and vanilla. On the sip, there's lots of milk chocolate, cocoa and lactose, finished off by a modest bitterness. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Simple but cohesive and well done.

From a 375ml can on 29/8/2018. Pours an ever so slightly hazy dark golden with a medium head. Has a light tropical fruit nose. It tastes quite sweet and has a really distinct orange tang at the end. The bitterness is fairly mild and I don't get the rye. Medium bodied with sprightly carbonation. Pleasant enough, but not a patch on their Super Juicy NEIPA.

From a 375ml can on 28/8/2018. Pours a clearish deep golden with a medium head. The aroma is surprisingly subdued, with just a hint of fruit. The flavour features some moderate orange sweetness against a biscuit malt background, with a slightly spicy rye hop finish. Quite full bodied with moderate carbonation. Not necessarily a stand out, but very well made and quite tasty. I don't think I've had a disappointing experience with Hope so far, and I've tried quite a few.

From a 375ml can on 24/8/2018. Pours a slightly hazy light golden with a small to medium head. Has a quite a strong tropical and stone fruit nose, not entirely like the standard Super Juicy. The flavour is intensely sweet, with mango, pineapple, apricot and peach, with a spicy finish which includes a relatively modest bitterness. The texture is slightly syrupy and the carbonation moderate. Long, complex and a touch boozy, this is really well done, though I think the standard version is slightly better.
