Bottle. Unclear amber with a dense white head. Aroma is floral with grapefruit, pepper and some earth, bread crusts. Approaching medium bodied, carbonation is pretty high. Tastes much as it smells, maybe some little red berries too. Slightly sweet, bitterness comes across as considerably higher than the listed 55IBU. Pungent, rustic and good.

Schooner on tap at the brewery. Red/brown beer with thin white head. Laces well. Nose has grain and sourness, some fruit. Taste is dark malt. Finish is a lingering smoky malty peaty thing. Aftertaste has an apple core dryness. It’s all in there and the more you drink, the more it works.

On tap at the brewery during Dark Mofo. Pale yellow, no carbonation. Thin film on top. Plastic cup makes it bit dead but still laces. Taste is light malt and grain. Finish has a bit of fruit, drinkable.

On tap at the Gertrude Hotel, pours a reddish dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out earthy rye upfront, followed by cocoa and toasted malt. Flavour is mellow, with earthy notes, toasted malt and a pronounced astringency on the finish. Not overly interesting. It's decent.
