Description
Big Sky Brewing Company was started by Neal Leathers, Bjorn Nabozney, and Brad Robinson. Brad and Neal had been homebrewers in Michigan since the mid 1980’s, and had moved to Missoula with a group of friends in the summer of 1990. In 1993 they started to set up a brewery. After about a year and a half, Big Sky Brewing Company had enough cash in the bank and a large enough bank loan to begin purchasing equipment and renovating its original location at 120-A Hickory Street. We brewed our first batch of beer in mid-June of 1995.
The company was a draft only brewery (no bottled beer) for its first five and a half years. We brewed everything on Hickory Street, but we realized that to really become a regional player we had to find a way to put our beer into bottles. in early 2002 we broke ground on a new brewery on Trumpeter Way just north of Missoula’s airport. We began brewing in the new brewery in September of 2002 and started bottling our beer there in January of 2003. Since then, we have been where we always wanted to be, brewing and packaging all of our beer right here in Missoula.

Bottled 2/16/16. It pours a lightly hazed golden orange color with a small white head. The aroma is grassy with orange, pineapple and maybe a hint of BO. The flavor is nice with strong pineapple, a little dank and a little honeyed malt. There may be a hint of sweet cherry in there, but it’s hard to notice. The finish has some medium to strong floral bitterness. The body is a tad heavy, but overall this is very good.

Bottle poured, as #2 of 6 in the blind wheat wine tasting. 2014 vintage. Dark copper pour with no head. Thick body, spice heavy aroma. Bran like aroma and flavor up front. Cool finish. Smooth up front, but a bit harsh and bitter on the finish. Overall, an enjoyable beer here.

Bottle, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is fairly earthy, with a cardboard element, some caramel and bready notes. Flavour is fairly cardboardy, with bready malt and caramel. Rather old and off-putting. Not very good at this point.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can, March 28, 2015, from slowrunner77, poured into a weizen glass. Hazy golden with medium white head. Aroma is light hops, medium/light body, medium carbonation, and some big-bubble lacing. Taste is light herbal hops. Seems past its prime.

2015 beer advent. Nice belgian yeast flavour, cleanly brewed with relatively light body for the 10% alcohol. Mild xmas spices in perfect quantity to compliment the belgian flavour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Creamy texture, chocolate, roasted malt, has a nice sweetness to it. Decadent.
