Description
The Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes was founded in 1999 by the Bruges couple Isabel & Hugues van Poucke. In 2012 the Chinese importer Xiaoning Yu bought the Brasserie d'Ecaussinnes from the Van Poucke's. Together with his friend and beer aficionado Michel Simon, he decided to invest in the former Brasserie d’Ecaussinnes. Substantive work was done to update the production and refresh the image of the brewery. In 2014, the introduction of a new team gave a young and modern dynamic to the brewery and the name was changed into Brasserie Scåssenes. In 2015, the brewery launched its own revolution….the 1830.

In 2020 after years of setbacks (the existing installations of the brewery turned out to be too old or too large; while co-investor Michel Simon left the firm) a new manager was appointed to put things in order. Brewmaster Jerôme, a medical biologist, keeps an eye on the fully automated brewing process.

Huge, just yellow tinted head, over clear golden beer. Rather sweet nose with vanilla and banana- and appleesters, maybe some glue. White candi sugar. Very light taste and MF, a bit citrussy, lemony. Some restsweetness, but not enough to speak about sweet beer. Indeniably refreshing, quite light in body and texture; near fizzy. Big thanks to Mrs. Van Poucke, who offered me this beer, actually only meant for the Australian (!) market, which explains a lot about its characteristics.

Bottle. Hazy golden color. Head is enormous. When I poured it was like all head and no visible beer :) Taste is sugarsweet with lots of ginger. Nice to taste, but I dont think I would drink two of this in a row.

Draught Light amber-red, dissipating yellowish head. Sweet, slightly fruitish and estery nose, cherries/plums on alcohol. Quite spicey, alcoholic taste, higher alcohols. There’s a fruity flavour but it could be indiscriminately plums, cherries, figs or Sharon fruit - as long as they’re dried and preserved with lots of sugar. Well bodied, slick, syrupy, alcoholburn. Well, it’s OK if you got the sweet tooth, but I’d love some more character.

Hazy-amber beer with greenish shine; yellowish head, fast reduced to leaving rims of lace. Perfumed nose, kafir leaf, citrus zeste, bit of grain. Strange, perfumed taste, citrus but not expressly so, sweet, fruity, exotic... Quite refreshing, not too many sugars, yet a certain syrupy feeling. A relief compared to some other "fruit" beers. Yet... I think the Thai would wash their hair with this - as they do with their excellent kafir lime fruitjuice...

bottle - Pours up a huge, lasting head and a tastey looking red brown color. This beer was remarkably easy to drink for 10% abv with a nice, full mouthfeel. Malts and dark fruits bringing to mind cherries and grapes dominate the flavor. Thanks to Thedm and Hotstuff for sharing this excellent brew.

Bottled. Rusty red, a bit hazy colour, nice big head. Faked cherry/raspberry whatever flavour. I actually think it’s closer to cherry than raspberry. Flavour is sour with raspberry/cherryish notes. Ends like running into a wall. Watery mouthfeel with carbonation tickling too much. Quite boring and I had actually waited to get something pleasant and drinkable...

Hazy blond color. Sweetish aroma, with a clear cinnamon footprint. Very sweet, round, correct bitterness, strong cinnamon. Funny, unprofessional, enjoyable.

Bottle, thanks to secret santa Nat
Amber, champagne carbonation, big fluffy amber head. Citrus and peach, light nut aroma. Fruity, a hint yeast, light butterscotch, exits quite fast, light pearling mouthfeel.

If it smells like a tripel, looks like a tripel, and tastes like a tripel, I say its a tripel. Aroma has light fruit aromas, some pear, light citrus, coriander. Cloudy orange with a thick head that laces the glass, and small pieces of sediment floating in the glass. Mostly sweet flavor with underlying bitter hops. More coridander. This is a sweet and heavy beer that is very smooth and easy to drink. Good.
