Draught. Poured orange with thick white head, much lacing. Aroma of hop, citrus and ’n bietjie hop. No lime. Strong hop flavour, as an IPA goes. No lime, kaffir or otherwise. Lasting hop finish, very lasting, a half an hour later and I still taste it.

Bomber, labeled as "Trade Route Ginger Pale Ale" - I’m a big fan of brewers that use non-traditional ingredients in creative ways, so I picked this up, and their mango hefe - the hefe was underwhelming, and this is even less interesting - ginger is very potent, so if you’re going to use it in a beer, you have to restrain yourself, and give the beer some other pronounced characteristics for the ginger to work in concert with - that is not the case here - all I smell is ginger - the flavor is also mostly ginger, with a little bit of grain/malt on the back - incredibly thin - extraordinarily boring - tastes like ginger ale with most of the sugar taken out of it - this is one gimmick brewer that I think I am done with.

Bomber, labeled as "Trade Route Mango Weizen" - I bought this one because it sounded interesting, and I was looking for something light and refreshing for this weather - turbid, fizzy pour, with a head that disappears completely shortly after the pour - tangy, wheaty aroma, with notes of hard to identify fruits - light, refreshing and tangy, even a little tart - quite a bit of orange, lemon, and lime - a bit of yeastiness and wheat through the middle - the mango finally comes out in the finish, along with some notes of melon rind - it’s a refreshing beer, and a creative take on a weizen, but as far as the style is concerned, despite its originality, I probably wouldn’t reach for this one again when I want a hefe.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a hazed brown body and an off-white head. Aroma is oddly floral with chocolate, rummy notes and light banana esters. Taste is slightly spiced, floral and rich in chocolate. Light carbonation, a bit thin though.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, white head that fades over a hazed yellow body. Aroma of wheat, dirt, mango and banana. Taste is CO2 and fizz, dry watery fruit and wheat. Very fizzy.

22 oz bottle courtesy of bvc. Pour is cloudy black purple, with nice settling building up a thick two inch beige head. Aroma of roast malt, sweet vanilla milkiness and a leafy vegetable note. Soft and natural nose. Taste is initially sweet vanilla, with roasty malt soon behind that. The vegetable note from the nose kicks in mid-palate and is very much the yams. Weird flavor, not off-putting really, just unique and strange. Palate is medium heavy, a bit chalky and has a longer finish. Overall odd beer, but reasonably tasty. Extra point for ongoing creativity. Thanks Brandon.

500ml. Murky orange-brown color. Very well executed beer. Starts off with a solid Weizen mouthfeel which fades into a pleasant mango aftertaste instead banana. I can see purists sticking up their noses at this one, but I think it works quite well. A good balanced beer. Worth trying.

Bottle: Copper pour with a small beige head. Just standing there shooting the breeze I notice this massive aroma of ginger floating through the air. Wow! The doesn’t have that same ginger potency, but still is rich with spices and florals. Some mild maltiness. Thanks Jordan.
