Loads or orange aroma, plus grapefruit and honey. It's an oddly thin palate for a beer with this much alcohol.

9/10/2022. Can from Beer Cartel. Pours clear pale golden with a slight green tint and a frothy white head. Aroma is grassy, hoppy, citrus, sweet malts. Medium sweetness and moderate sweetness. Moderate body, slightly watery, quite fizzy. Bitter grapefruit and slightly metallic finish. Not bad.

Can. Somewhat cloudy orange with a fluffy 2cm white head. Weak orange and half baked dough aroma with an odd pepper note. Then the citrus is much sharper - more lemon and grapefruit than orange - in the taste with a little mango and rather less pepper. Taste kind of fades away rather than finishes.

375ml can into schooner. From BWS, Glen Innes. Pale yellow beer with slight haze and sticky bubbles. Thin white head, citric nose with hints of grass and band-aid. Light body, lots of mandarin. Thin dry finish with more mandarin. Doesn't really have the body I thought a wheat ale should.

Can. Cloudy yellowish orange with a small white head. Aroma of crackers, cloves and weeds. No softness to the texture. Dryish with some mandarin and metallic notes with crackers before weedy and vaguely citrus-tinged bitterness. Refreshing but would go better in summer. Not quite clear whether this is part of an Ashai attempt to create a sub-style or some sort of former craft brand tontine.

Can. Black with a cm of tan head. The addition of vanilla is not that subtle. Gentle richness from bread, biscuit, caramel. Light spices. Upon a taste everything takes a backseat to moderate but insistent roast. Malty flavours fatten things up but there's little sweetness and a solid whack of bitterness. Some spices - including now subtle vanilla - linger. A good iteration of this.

Can. Almost black with a fat coat of light tan head. Big snootful of singed toffee and Cognac, sherry, spicy oak. Sweet and heavy with stewed and dried fruit. Creamy toffee. Barrel and hops struggle to lighten the load. Old Ale-ish. Pretty good but a little frustrating. Shame the beer it's a tribute to seems a travesty in recent years.

Aromas of caramel, raisins and bread and a little vanilla. It's got a nice, thick mouthfeel with a hint of chocolate on the roof of the mouth, plus a little citrus. Very pleasant.

Aromas of grapefruit, spice an biscuit. More spice in the mouth that throws the balance off. Just don't really enjoy this one.
