Can. Black with a cm of brown head that soon fades to less than a coat. Lovely aroma of chocolate, kirsch (OK, cherries & rum) roast, gentle spices. Smooth textured. Sweet chocolate and cherry with wood and booze more than bitterness reining things in. Perhaps a little bite from the smoke. Less depth than hoped for after the aroma and a tad wearing after a while. Made for Danish pints?

Can. Pretty much clear amber with a small off white head. Boozy aroma with oranges, lemon, some herbal notes. Sweet with nagging solventy citrus and some resin before boozy moderately bitter finish. It's 9.5% ABV and all the malt is doing is fighting the hops. Feh.

Can. Quite pale clear gold with a cm+ of white head. Aroma of kumquat, pine, herbs, breadcrust. (I think it's yuzu and gin botanicals). Initially sweet and fruity - although the punch of yuzu doesn't really come through - then sweet breadcrust and pine before bitterness and some herbal woody notes at the end. I dunno - what's interesting here (lemongrass?) I don't really like.

Can. Clear gold with a good inch of white head that fades slowly. Aroma of citrus with earthy and spicy notes behind - almost like they're trying to get a blend of new hops to mimic noble ones. A little sweet with that illusion of richness you get in decent lager before a moderately bitter finish. Good.

Can. Pretty much black with a large light tan head. Aroma of sweet coffee with a brûléed undertone. Fairly sweet with some overt alcohol. Mocha and hard caramel but little bottom end rumble. A bit of drying oak at the somewhat astringent and mildly bitter end. I do like the way the finish keeps the sweetness in check but I wanted more grunt in the middle for the strength. Still - as ever from Mountain Goat - it's a coherent offering.
