Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.

We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.

We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

Nose of tart malt with some raspberry esters; Hazy pink tinged amber with a small white head; flavor was tart raspberry with some wheatiness. Kind of watery body, Not great but it is my first beer from Louisiana!

Clear yellow to copper color. Doesn’t seem even close to amber in color. Thin head. Weak aroma. I smell almost nothing. I taste some really nice hop bitterness that pushes it out of style a bit. There is some caramel flavor notes that are a little less sweet than I’d expect. Nice light beer that kind of misses the Amber Lager style. Really could use more body.

Crystal clear yellow color with white head. Some decent hop and sweet malt aromas. Smells like a pilsner. Light tasting beer that tastes like a pilsner. Very light with no real flavor flaws. Not too bad.

On tap @ Mellow Mushroom. Kind of pink in color with small white head. Aroma seems like bitter grapefruit and some sweet citrus. Flavor is a little like candy. I taste sweet berry flavor followed by some dryer malts and some tartness around my tongue. Good light weight summer day brew.

On tap @ Mellow Mushroom. Nice clear brown color with minimal head. Aroma is sweet caramel and some spicy yeast or maybe hops. Flavor is a combo of sweet caramel malt and some grain malt plus a bit of mild hoppiness. Superbly balanced beer. Very nice

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a clear pale golden color with a small white head. The aroma is sweet, tangy and pleasant. The flavor is sour and tangy with a hint of light roasty malts and a sour tangy finish. There is a hint of pepper.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a medium golden color with a small white head. The aroma is sour, tangy and sugary and is not at all good. The flavor is sugar and an almost grape like tangy finish. Not good.

A hazy orange beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet with a somewhat sharp hop note. The flavor is very light with hints of malt, and a somewhat stronger note of hops. A boring beer, can only be used for refreshment, even on a humid Danish summer day.
