Founded in 1983 by Ken Brooker, the Scottish brewery has grown steadily to become renowned for their award winning beers. Head brewer, Stuart Cail, joined Harviestoun in 1995. Over the years the brewery has found new and innovative ways to create truly unique beers from their whisky cask aged Old Engine Oil to Bitter and Twisted, aged in Gin and Pinot Noir barrels.

Vintage Oct. 2017. 12 oz. bottle, pours black with a tiny beige head. Aroma brings out plenty of gently peated whiskey, nice oxidation notes, toasted bready malt, and a hint of toffee. Flavour is peaty and oxidized, with toasted bready malt, plenty of whiskey, a little toffee, and a hint of cracked black pepper. The complexity is reasonable, but it's not the most exciting one they've done, though I can't say I trust my memory of the other versions. It's certainly competently brewed and very drinkable, but not an upper tier old ale.
