Description
About Mjøderiet:

Behind Mjøderiet stands five firefighters from Bergen with a passion for mead - an ancient cultural drink that has only in the last few years begun to return to Nordic palates.

With backgrounds as home brewers and beer enthusiasts at various levels, we at Mjøderiet have ambitions to revitalize mead in Norway. We believe Norwegians are ready to take part in the international development where mead has made a comeback in several countries. We think mead is insanely exciting and is a drink with great potential.

Mjøderiet wants to spread knowledge about mead, revive the classic styles and experiment with new and exciting flavors. We want to have a foot in the old mead tradition and one in the new craft brewery culture, where we experiment with fruits and spices, different alcoholic strengths and different levels of carbonic acid.

The meeting room will have diversity.
We want quality, and genuine passion for precious drops.
For painstakingly collected honey from diligent bees. For real fruits and berries, for flavorful herbs and spices. And of course for exciting and unique flavor combinations.

We want to meet the people.

Tap @ Melkebaren. Clear, slightly pink’ish red body under a small, fast disappearing white heat. Aroma of red berries, raspberries and moderate honey. Taste is sweet with a delicate, light acidity for balance. Red berries, mild honey and well-integrated alcohol. Body feels balanced and aftertaste is pleasant on the sweeter side.

Small sample from bottle, thanx Yngwie. Almost clear deep, dark red body without any head. Strong blueberry aroma with a nice touch of cardamom and honey almost totally in the background. The vanilla part was a bit weak by me and could actually remind me more of some meadowsweet (the plant). Flavor is really sweet with lots of blueberry here as well, the honey part is much more pronounced than expected from the aroma, but not too overwhelming. The cardamom and vanilla makes a really nice touch on top of the all and the aftertaste has a nice warming, not boozy alcohol sting. Full bodied and rich aftertaste. It’s a nice desert om it’s own and not something to drink a lot of, but as a nice little mead sipper this is really great stuff.

Tap at Bakgården. Clear golden body with a small white head and rather oily consistency. Aroma is strong, noble apple, almost like concentrate apple juice with a nice touch of honey. Flavor is a perfect combination of rich apple juice with balancing acidity and moderate, sweet honey. It’s very sweet but still refreshing and reminds a bit of ice cider in a way. I have never tatted anything like this and it was a positive surprice all over. Fine balanced body as well and long lasting quite sweet aftertaste.

Bottle @ Gunfryds megaticker party. Nice, deep red body under a small off-white head. Aroma has some honey, but there is also a strange and unpleasant scent of over ripe red berries and fruit that reminds me of puke. Some of these elements are found in the taste as well. Rather messy and unpleasant. Sorry.
