Description
WAYFINDER BEER is a new brewery project in Portland, Oregon. We have transformed a 8,900 square feet of a century-old brick warehouse in Portland's Central Eastside into a classic destination for beer and food lovers.

Wayfinder is the brainchild of Charlie Devereux (co-founder of Double Mountain Brewery), Matthew Jacobson (co-founder/owner of Sizzle Pie, Quality Bar, and Relapse Records) and Rodney Muirhead (co-founder/owner of Podnah's Pit and La Taq). Our mission: to bring simple and authentic pleasures of the highest quality to the Rose City and beyond.

Guests to Wayfinder will find enjoyment in our 110-seat taphall, or outside on our massive patio. Our menu of handcrafted comfort food features deliciousness from a custom wood-fired grill. We're using our four-vessel, 10-barrel brewhouse to create world-class lagers and ales for onsite enjoyment and wholesale distribution.

Can. Pours a dark brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of bread with a touch of dark grains and roast supporting. Flavor has a bread and dark grains with a hint of roasted malts backing.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours brassy gold with a large foamy white head. Woodsmoke - not so much smoked malt? - for aroma. Med body. Flavor is quite smoky. Dry. Green stuff for bitter. Not fruit or floral. Decent rauchbier. Smoke is not going away!

Clear gold with a decent white head. Big pine and balanced malts. Bitter and piney, just like the old days. Solid.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver, canned 12/01/2020, 3 months old
Clean blond colour. Delicate malt aroma, Lager yeast. Crisp mouthfeel, moderate malt; the bitterness is on the level of a Lager, and besides a hint of hop resins, there is not much hop character. Good Lager (?).

Can from Cask & Barrel. Decocted Pilsner...is there some other fucking way to make pilsner? Dull gold, because there's a fair bit of pointless haze. Heavy malts and wet grassy hops. The core elements are there, but they aren't special in any way. Not getting, for example, that sweet beautiful pale malt brightness I want in the base. The saaz...it is what it is...the best saaz doesn't leave the Czech Republic anyway so I am realistic in what I expect there.

Pours bright, a dark gold colour. Not much head. Has an earthy/piney/chewy aroma that is definitely a bit old school. On the palate, it's less chewy, with more of a bready character. Medium bitterness, and a decent piney, resinous hop character. Maybe a bit of that crystal malt chewiness in the finish, but just a touch.

16 oz can, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma is crisp, with grassy and piney hops, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is crisp and biting, with piney hops, grassiness, and crisp biscuity malt. Grassy, biting finish with moderate bitterness. Nice to taste something like this amidst all the hazies.

Pour is a crystal clear gold with a large white head. Aroma is a nice pleasant smoke with some bready malt as well. Flavor is a little more intense smoke than the aroma let on. Meaty and rich with some campfire notes. Finish is clean and gone in a second. Decent rauchbier, if your looking for smoke in your beer you've found it.

16oz shared with Alex at Andrey's. Appearance: clean golden with a weak white head. Aroma: some lightly sweet caramel, a bit of flowers, nice and clean. Taste: along the same lines with noticeable bitterness in the finish. Overall: good one.
