Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt with light cereal notes is pleasant though not as rich as I would have expected. Taste is also dominated by cereal notes with dry caramel grainy notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad though I prefer scotch ale sweeter and with bigger malt profile.

Bottle from BrewDog AGM. It pours slightly hazy light orange, with a massive white head. The nose is grass, orange fruit, creamy and sweaty sock. The taste is straw, resinous hops, orange squash, citrus pith, grapefruit, spice and grass, with a bitter-dry finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Gold with a huge white head. High bead. Aroma of lemon/ lemon pudding, passionfruit. Taste has light sweet and slightly sour grain, tropical fruit, dry finish with lemon and some herbs. Perhaps a touch overcarbonated. Crisp and lean.

Pours brown with a large, growing head.Nose shows chocolate, sultanas, caramel, and nutty malt. Pretty moreish.Flavours include more caramel and chocolate alongside nutty malt. Quite sweet.Spoiled a little by the excessively high carbonation though.

Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, fruits, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of sugar, caramel, alcohol, and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry, alcoholic, and fruity finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a deep amber with a slight haze and a small off-white head. Thick oxidized caramellish aroma. Solid body, sweet caramel, honeyish - a little woody. A strange slightly chemical tang that is not entirely pleasant. Warming alcohol finish. So - so. 260412

(bottle) Poured one pint of hazy amber beer and one pint of foam. Nice zesty grapefruit hop aroma. Light body and fizzy. Pleasant malt with lots of hop flavours, but not a lot of hop bitterness. Tangy grapefruit and some peppery spice. Some pleasant bitterness in finish. Overall a nice APA but spoiled by the ridiculous effervescence.
