About

Dark orange colour with massive foaming head. Aroma is very much aligned with Orval with its sticking plaster, slightly medicinal iodine profile. This has slightly more candy, fruity esters though. In the flavour there's the familiar Orval dryness but with this one there's more residual malt sweetness. Really interesting and very close to Orval. Need to have them both side by side in the future.

Bottle. Moderate gusher. Dirty orange with a dense cream head that lasts all the way. Aroma is funky with apricots, nectarines, dough, spices, old lemons - others have mentioned Orval + gueuze but it smells a bit heavier. Creamy texture with fairly high carbonation. Lots of stone fruit and old lemons, zingy, spicy and bitter at the end. Not as focused at the end as it might be, but really good. A brewery to chase.

37,5cl Bottle @ Belgium Web. Pours cloudy dark golden with a small creamy white head. Horseblanket, barnyard and citrus. Inviting nose. Funky and dry flavor with a clean and sharp dry flavor. Citrussy and plenty of farm and barnyard. A sprinkle of sesame seeds. Delicious.

Quite a dark golden colour with a head that fizzes out quickly. Aroma has crisp sour apple, wood and a little funk. The taste has a fairly mellow tartness. Seems like there's a lot background sweetness from the barrels, certainly some vanilla. Hint of sherry too. Gentle and well balanced

Pours a semi-deep, almost perfectly transparent, light orange, with a large bubbled champagne-like head that disappears almost istantly. Quite murky on secod pour. Aroma is averagely intense and not especially complex: citric (tangerine, lemon) notes, perhaps a hint of green apple, light funkiness, some background vinous character. Taste notes as per aroma: good enough intensity, not much depth. Sourness is mainly citric, with slight lactic hints; there's also some kind of fatty vinous background that kinda reminds of lambrusco wine if you know what it is. Overall average sourness per style. As the aroma suggested, funkiness is very much in check. Despite limited funky complexity, the beer doesn't feel too clean. I know a gueuze is not supposed to be perfectly clean, but this one feels like kind of not too polished. Medium body, medium or slightly above medium carbonation; feels fuller than style average in mouthfeel. The beer was overall enjoyable and easily drinkable, but i wasn't impressed. Didn't feel very refined. Surprised with the very good ratings.
