On draught at the brewpub. Pours a clear light orange-yellow color with a thin white head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Pine and spruce in the nose, along with some fresh fruit and spice. Medium-bodied with a nice woody character, and flavors of piney hops, malt and sweet fruit. The finish is fruity with the fresh spruce flavor lingering in the aftertaste. Very enjoyable all around, and it is interesting that 2 Alaskan brewers feature spruce (an old anti-scurvy remedy) as an ingredient in one of their beers.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a dark brownish-red color with a medium and foamy beige head that diminishes slowly. Rich malty aroma with touches of chocolate and fruit. Full-bodied with a strong malt character and flavors of caramel and hops, with some smoky notes showing up here and there. The finish is sweet and malty with a lingering lightly bitter hops aftertaste. Decent all around.
