Flaske 0,33l. Julepreg? Ja - men ikke heltvellykket.

(Draught at Man in the Moon, Stockholm, 4 Apr 2014) Black colour with frothy, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of sweet espresso, dark chocolate, dark fruit and liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with espresso, liquorice, raisins, muscovado sugar, dried fruit and a fairly sweet finish with a generous coffee bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Complex and tasty stout with some fruit and sugar character. Excellent beer.

Bottle bought through Systembolaget. Pours hazy goldenish dark brown with a frothy and slightly fizzy blackish beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is vinous with dark bread, raisins, hay, moist wood, dry soil, port wine, purple winegums, orange zest and hints of black pepper corns and rye bread. Taste is sour, tiny bitter and vinous with dark bread, moist wood, hay, red wine, port wine, orange zest, lemon zest, moist soil, moss, leather and hints of barnyard and raisins. Mouthfeel is dry, round, tart and light to medium bodied. Finish is sour, tiny bitter and vinous with dark bread, burnt raisins, black pepper corns, hay, moist wood, port wine, orange peal, lemon peal, lime peal, burnt sugar and lime juice. Refreshing tart saison...

Bottle. A black one, really, really black, with a small, dense, dark tan head. It’s very coffee-ish in the aroma, with licorice, charcoal, booze, some coconut and vanilla and a touch of dark sugar and berriess. Not much honey detected in the nose, but in the flavor there’s lots of mead-ish honey. Coffee, bonfire, licorice and sweetness. Warming and full-bodied, with sweet, honeyish finish. Coffee too. Pretty nice this one, feels sort of like a coffee imp stout, but it’s much more sweet. Think I like it. 140420

Bottle. Nice lacings occur as the dense, finger-thick light beige head sinks. Unclear, dark golden-orange body. The aroma is mostly on the hoppy side, pine cones, resins and some lemon peel, with caramel maltyness and a cheesy touch. Full-bodied and almost warming on the palate, nice carbonation level. Resins, pine cones and citrus in the flavor, as well as caramel and a cheesy touch. Bitter finish. Not very interesting this one, even though there’s something interesting going on. 140420

Bottle. A dark brown beer, topped by a dense, tan head. The aroma has roasted malts, molasses, coffee, dark chocolate and some alcohol. The flavor has a nice sweetness, it’s very dryish too, like charcoal. Full body and a pleasant carbonation level. Warming. Lightly spiced, with a vegetal note, cocoa and dark chocolate. Lasting roasted finish, dry and bitter. There’s certainly some qualities here, but it’s quite messy too I think. Not a favorite. 140420
