Bottle @ Post-Easter Procrastination, Ulfborg. Pours hazy very dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of roast and coffee, with notes of malt and touches of hops and liquorice. Sweetish, malty flavour with notes of fruit and bitter, roasty and coffee-like touches. Hints of lactose. Roasty and sourish aftertaste. Okay but would be even better without the sourish hints.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours bright copper/amber with a beige head. Aroma is citrus and "sweat". Near full bodied. Flavor is fruity, hoppy, but not all that bitter. Not all that dry either. Pretty smooth, taste wise.

[2/11/15] Draught at Toronado in San Francisco. Clear golden. Aroma of apples, grapes and white wine. Flavor is yeasty, spicy, slightly sweetish, with a light acidic note with apples and grapes. Medium-bodied. Interesting. Could’ve been nicer if it had more sourness.

Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours dark brown with a tan smear. Bourbon aroma fills the air, but up close it seems to have some cola! And definite lacto/pedio upon a deep inhale. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor starts bourbon/cola and then there’s a lot of chocolate, which drizzles away to reveal a non-brett sour. No tart. Just sour. Bourbon, chocolate, sour - about covers the finish. Really smooth and refined compared to a number of wild/sours. Query why this hit as IS, but I guess W/S-IS isn’t a category yet. Fun to drink, and it’s not "rotten" enough to scare anyone. Tho likely challenging for a new comer. Get it if you can!

The beer is a medium yellow golden color. It’s hazy but translucent enough to see general shapes through the glass. The head is smallish and white and fades after a couple minutes. The aroma is pale malt, pears, apples, oak, butter (as in buttery chardonnay, not diacetyl buttered popcorn), vanilla and grapes. There’s a lot of chardonnay barrel character, and any enjoyment that you get out of this beer will depend on how much you like that. Lots of fruitiness. Not much in the way of saison character. The taste has mild malt sweetness and lots more barrel character. It’s fairly bitter from the wood. Lots more fruit. Plenty of chardonnay. There’s a boozy, oaky quality that throws me off. It almost tastes like a mix of chardonnay and beer. Carbonation is on the low side. Long barrel finish. Odd stuff. I’m not really sure whether I like it. The barrel took over, and the beer could really use something to balance that out. It’s interesting, just not altogether pleasant.
