Description
The Le Lay family history unfolds in a the quiet valley of Pont-Menhir in the Breton village of Plomelin, western France. There, a small stream flows past standing stones over 5000 years old and 2000 year-old Romain remains.

In 1986, on the very same site where his ancestors worked,
Guy Le Lay wrote a new chapter of this valley’s history. In 1986 Guy left his job as a Maths teacher, became a professional distiller and at Christmas of the same year, launched the first Pommeau de Bretagne. In 2008 Guy retired and his sons, the 5th generation of the Le Lay family, took over the company.

Sampled from 0.75 l bottle, shared by sjogro at Not THT, thanks! Clear, golden yellow with a white head. Sweetish, sourish-fruity and a little funky aroma of apple juice, a touch of pear and hints of almond. Quite sweet, moderately sourish-fruity and a little funky taste of apple juice, some pear and a bit of almond, followed by a short, slightly tart and a bit dry finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Okay, just sweeter than expected.

Bottle shared. Clear golden with short lasting fizzy white head. Musty apple, loads of fresh apple skins and some juice. Light earthy and dusty, tree bark, dry cardboard. Over medium sweet but also quite dry at the same time. Some apple tartness. Medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. Not bad. 3.3 Had it again in 2019. More fresh with some OK funk. Note bad at all. 3.5
