11.2oz Bottle Pours out brown topped with a sand ring of a head. Aroma is of sweet milk chocolate, roast malts, caramel, and some nuts. Taste is more of the chocolate and rich malts.

Originally rated July 2009. Came in a 6-pack at the LCBO and enjoyed the first four bottles at a jam. Was pretty decent, and now testing it in a glass. Pours a clean golden colour with lots of carbonation (bigger bubbles than average on the side and bottom of the glass). Big creamy-foam white head that stays a while and leaves beautiful lace. The malty nose is much stronger than normal swill beers, so that is a good start, with notes of bread. Crisp mouthfeel with a mix of sweet malt and biscuit malt (that is pretty tame), and has the hop showing up in the aftertaste. The flavour gets better as the brew warms up a bit. A much better lager than most mass-produced products, that is not offensive for drinkers of those beers.

Bottle from a Cost Plus/World Market Beers of the World Box. Pours orangey gold with a big frothy white head. Smells like very light caramel. Med body. Flavor is light roast caramel. There’s also either some vanilla or a trace of diacetyl or something of that sort. Actually coming on buttery,so likely diacetyl. That’s not bad here- sort of comes across as butterscotch. Interesting and acceptable.

11.2 oz bottle into English pint. Aroma is caramel malt, citrus powder, wet river rocks, metal. Pours a bright copper hue with a medium-sized head that recedes after a few minutes, leaving a fine blanket of foam. Taste is sweet with a touch of sour and very little bitterness; tastes a bit grainy, somewhat like corn muffins. Medium to high carbonation with a medium body and a long grainy finish. Drinkable, but nothing really stands out. Pretty boring.

Amber color. Light aroma, light caramel flavor, very dry, helped also by strong and metallic bitterness. The mountain label is the only nice thing here. Useless.

Draught at WaaZuBee Café, Vancouver
the tap handle says that it’s brewed by Whistler Brewing, not Bear
Dark brown color. Light aroma of roasted malts and puke. Soft mouthfeel, light dark caramel flavor, possibly some residual sweetness, and low bitterness. Simple and boring.

On tap at Joey's, pours dark brown. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt and light cocoa - thin finish. Better than expected.

Bottle from an Albertsons! Pours a very dark brown with a large foamy beige head. Aroma is rather nutty over smooth chocolate/burnt malt. Medium minus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is a little nutty, more chocolate. Not strong. But good. I could drink this frequently.

11.2 oz bottle into English pint. Aroma is caramel malt; doughy. Pours dark brown with pretty good lacework with a medium off-white head which retains itself for a few minutes leaving a collar of foam. Taste is roasted coffee. A little sweet, no real bitterness. Finishes with a light tang. A bit thin in body. Carbonation is medium. My overall impression is that this is pretty bland, but compared to the last three beers I’ve drank it’s a huge step up. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a mild ale before. Not bad, but not great. Addendum: nice malty roasted aroma opens up considerably as it warms. I should have let the bottle warm a bit before ranking. It was too cold at first.

11.2 oz bottle. Aroma is extremely sweet caramelized grains. Smells somewhat like a Sam Adams Boston Lager, maybe a little sweeter. Pours golden with a medium dissipating head, decent lacing. Taste is sweet. Medium carbonation, creamy mouthfeel, watery finish. Not bad, but it seems like a direct ripoff of Sam Adams’ flagship brew, which is itself something I’ve never been all that enthusiastic about.
