BOTTLE 50 CL. Murky golden, big white head. Spicy phenolic nose, more like fermenting fruit or spicy cheese than clove. Light banana notes. Taste: brutal husky grains, unbalanced sweetness falling out of the blue, carbonic acid. Vegetal astringency in the after-taste. As a hefeweizen it is a bit of a monster.

Shared 16.9 oz. bottle. Been avoiding this one for quite some time; I guess it’s time to face the music. Pours a hazy medium amber with a small, short-lived and listless off-white head. Aroma is brown sugar, caramel, syrup, and acetone. Taste is super-sweet and malty. Very cloying. Brown sugar, syrup, and caramel. More acetone with perhaps a little rubbing alcohol. Low carbonation. Cloying, alcohol-laden finish. I gagged on the 4th or 5th small sip; that calls for an automatic sub-one rating in my book. Drain pour.

What the hell am I drinking. I have had this bottle for years, looking for a reason of punishment for opening it. Tcon and I decided that if the Mariners couldn’t win on opening day, to continue their opening day dominance, than we have to pick a bottle that we would likely regret. Dusted this off. I’m sure I originally got this for the Romania tick. Some good coming out of this. Copper orange pour with no head. This has to be some sort of weird beer style that I’ve never had. Aroma is a weird, brown sugar, caramel spice infused malt. Flavor is an overly sweet, watered down malt liquor. Pretty dominant brown sugar element, but watery and boozy both. Ick.

CAN 50 CL. Clear golden, white fluffy head. Smells like unfermented wort and boiled hops. Same taste and sweeter than an average alcohol free lager. Quite horrible.

CAN 50 CL. Clear deep golden, short living head. Aroma is cidery. Tastes pretty solid and malty, with hints of grassy hops (pretty maibock-ish, actually!) and, again, cider acidity. Certainly off, but not totally offensive.

CAN 50 CL. Clear golden, white head. Aroma has old dusty malts and cardboard, light acidity. Taste: Again, malt sweetness, covered by some weird acidity and light but harsh bitterness. More cardboard. At just 5% ABV it has the profile and drinkability of a strong lager. Mediocre, at best.

CAN 50 CL. Clear golden, frothy white head. Weak aroma of pale malts and something herbal. The taste is simple pale malts, and generic but clean inoffensive bitterness. The body is quite smooth and not watery. Just like a run off the mill German helles. Decent.

CAN 50 CL. Clear golden, fast diminishing head. Aroma is old malts, wet bitter herbs (some odd or old hops?). Taste: light generic sweetness, mineral water, same odd wet tobacco hops.Light pleasant bitter finish. Not that bad, in fact, especially considering the 5,5P gravity.

CAN 50 CL. Clear golden, fluffy head. Aroma has malts and baked apples, a bit cidery too. Tastes of dusty grains, some malt sweetness and a bit of salt in the finish. Harsh carbonation, husky finish. Not good.

PET 2L. Smells of musty malts and rotten hay. Similar taste, though less offensive. Some malt sweetness and a decent body for a 3,5 abv beer. The body is pretty smooth too. Sucks, overall.
