About
South East Brewing Company are the proud makers of Golden Axe Cider, KAIJU! Beer, and Coaster Beer.

Nat and Callum Reeves are the duo behind KAIJU! Beer and Golden Axe Cider. After releasing a Double IPA back in 2013 that not only got a lot of attention, but single handedly caused a statewide shortage of Simcoe hops, the brothers quickly established themselves as the original hopmasters. Since then, they have been very busy growing the KAIJU! Beer range of hop-driven beers, all made at the brewery in Dandenong South, Victoria.

Note: 2013-2015 brewed at Cavalier.

On tap at BrewDog Roppongi, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out medium roasted malt, with earthy hops and light pine. Flavour is robust and balanced, with lots of roasted malt and piney hops, with a smooth malty character in back. Robust and nicely balanced. Excellent.

Can, Dan's. Translucent orange with a cm of white head. Pulpy citrus - more orange than grapefruit - with some mango and pineapple, smooshed crackers. Starts sweetish and juicy, then rapidly sharpens to be quite dry and bitter at the end. A bit disjointed but refreshing.

Can. Clear golden amber with a good cm of white head. 3+ Sunny aroma of pomelo, sauv blanc, pine, light bread. Slight touch of breadcrust fattens things just enough to let the hops shine. Mostly citrusy but there's some sauv blanc/ gooseberry/ grass that is wildly complementary. Dryish, somewhat resinous bitter finish. A belter.

Can. Moderately hazy sunset amber with a 2cm white head. 4- Aroma of apricot, melon, herbal lemon, guava. Slightly chalky, juicy with more prominent tropical notes before a slight citrus edge. No particular bitterness and that leaves the sweetness to sit around.

A sumptuous huge stout that hides its alcohol beautifully. Aromas of raisins, coffee, toast, chocolate and licorice. Delicious and thick in the mouth, there are plenty of citrus hops to balance out the other flavours. It's got a nice balance with a sweet, but not cloying, finish.

Can. Gold with a large white head that soon fades. Aroma of under-ripe tropical fruit, grass clippings, Sauv Blanc, Moroccan lemons, crackers. Dryish with punchy aromatics that whilst Kiwi are somewhat reminiscent of noble hops - and yes, a crusp bitter finish.

Can. Dirty yellow with a loose white head that's soon gone. Loads of pineapple and some candied lemon peel in the aroma. Some crackers. But then there's a bit more body than expected and the fruit spreads out a little before a dryish citrusy bitter finish. Refreshing.

Can. Very clear amber with a good inch of white head that lasts OK. Aroma is a taut combination of peach, pine, slightly herbal oranges, some caramel and bread. So it tastes. Deft balance - there's enough of a platform, then the caramel leads into the oranges until the firm bitterness takes over. Just shaded by Dopesmoker but another excellent IPA from Kaiju. Still dabbling with IP issues though.
