Whenever possible, we source local ingredients such as island grown hops, honey and heather. Our highly flavourful beers pair wonderfully with good food and are the perfect accompaniment to locally-sourced gastronomic fare. Brewed entirely by hand, our beer is made in small batches using traditional, unhurried methods.

Foggy gold body and almost no head. Soft malt and citrus on the nose. Flavour is maltiness with sharp carbonation on the mouth and a dry bready finish. Drinkable. Unremarkable.

I gotta say that the labelling on these beers certainly looks one step below professional, which could mean great things (cool obscure local brewer) or horrible things (forgettable obscure local brewer). It pours with a fine amber body and a decent layer of head. Aroma is weird fermented skunkiness and swampwater with a hint of malt. Flavour is weird grass and malt with a dry finish. Based on this beer, I’m leaning toward calling the brewer closer to the latter.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours clear copper. Aroma is quite weak, with vanilla and spices. Flavour is a thin, uncomplex vanilla, popcorn and light spices. Quite watered down and underwhelming.

Sampled at GCBF '10, pours hazy golden orange. Aroma and flavour of nicely balanced caramel malts and hops. Easily Saltspring's best beer.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, as Salt Spring Golden Spike Ale
Hazy blond. Color. Almost no aroma. Poor Lager flavor, just not as watery as the Heatherdale, but equally useless.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, as Salt Spring Heatherdale
Hazy deep blond color; creamy head. Light aroma. Weak body, watery mouthfeel, light corny and papery flavor. Low bitterness. A very poor Lager.

Pours dark brown with a beige head. Very dry, roasted malt porter. Alright.

Pours a golden orange. Almost nonexistent aroma of grains. Flavour is a boring balance of hops and malt. Not too bad.

Pours golden with a white head. Taste is very grainy/bready, with some light floral and citrus notes. Not terrible.
