Draft pour pint at Whitewall. First visit! Pours a hazy golden yellow with a patchy head. A fruity hop aroma. Flavor is citrus fruit fronted, with a bitter hop finish. Bitterness seems to last and leave a dominant impression. Solid bite to it. Just under harsh. Nice IPA.

750mL capped and waxed bottle shared by Andrew. We had this at the end of a small (well, not to small) barleywine tasting that included an Old Crusty vertical. This may have been my favorite of the barleywines. A difficult feat to pull off for a new, small brewery. This is a darker barleywine. Dark brown rusted copper color, cannot see through it. I have been drinking this beer for close to 6 hours. In the middle I took a nap and went to Stumbling Monk to play MtG will drinking some sour gueze on tap. It avoids big mistakes. Its not astringent, not at all. Despite the high abv, its not boozy. Its also not too sweet or hoppy. Definitely not an Americanized hop barleywine. So, just making a beer that avoids the aforementioned problems is great. In addition, it has a defining characteristic that is lovely. There is this charred, burnt mat character that is real fun. A little sweet brown malts, light raisin bread. Dare is say, its a balanced barleywine and one I would never guess was 12.5%. Thanks Andrew and this makes me want to seek out other Whitewall beers.

750 ml waxed bottle poured. Anniversary already? Crazy. Pours a reddish, bronze color with a thin, fading head. Sweet fruit, paired with soft malt aroma. Maybe grape, and raisin flavor, and is slightly boozy, but not enough to complain at 12.5%. Red grape to be exact. Bran, raisin, dusty malt, dark fruit finish. Sweet linger. Overall pretty good, and quite a memorable one to end a night of barley wine.

Draft pour pint at Special Brews. Pours a dark brown with a cream foam head. Medium roasted malt aroma. Flavor is toasty malt, but not distinct smoked for me. More of a roasted quality, but the smoke shows in the late palate. Pretty good, but I wanted more smoke.

Growler poured. Thanks Mr. Native! Pours a near black with a foamy tan head. Nutty, vanilla like aroma. Flavor matches. Mild roasted malt finish. Pretty good.

On tap at Whitewall, pours a hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma is restrained, with bready malt and a touch of caramel. Flavour matches accordingly, with a caramely bready malt quality dominating. On the sweet side, but still well-balanced. Solid.

On tap at Whitewall, pours an amber brown with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out toasted bready malt, light earthy and toasted nuts. Flavour is along the same lines - pretty basic brown ale with a good balance of toasted nuts and bready malt. Well-brewed but not really interesting.

On tap at Whitewall, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out floral hops and some light tropical fruitiness. Flavour is along the same lines - lots of bright citrus and tropical fruitiness overtop a light malt backbone with restrained bitterness. Nice pale.

On tap at Whitewall, pours a dark brown with a reddish tinge and a medium off-white head. Nose brings out toasted malt, crusty bread, and light hops. Flavour is lightly burnt, with crusty dark bread, toasted malt, and medium hop profile. A little unusual with the burnt quality, but it works very well. Nice black IPA.
