Description
The Kuhnhenn Brewing Company is a small microbrewery, winery and meadery in Warren, Michigan, United States. They have several beers rated in the top 100 in the world on beeradvocate.com and ratebeer.com. The business was established in 1998, but did not open its doors until 2001, by owners and brewers, the brothers Bret and Eric Kuhnhenn.
The brewery sits on the corner of Mound and Chicago Road in the old Lutz hardware store which is owned by the Kuhnhenn family. The brothers started homebrewing when Eric went to college and was introduced to it. He brought the hobby home and introduced it to his brother Bret. Bret started selling homebrewing supplies from the hardware store and soon it became more profitable than selling hardware. The hardware component of the establishment did not disappear from the brewery until mid-2006.
The brewery uses converted equipment, the lauter tun was a peanut butter hopper from Quaker Oats cereal, the mash/boil kettle was a yeast starter for a sour dough bread company, their pilot systemโs kettle was a 100-gallon coffee maker. They have a six kettle brew on the premises that allows them to make experimental beers.
The beers include Raspberry Eisbock, Winter Wonder Lager, Fourth Dementia, DRIPA and Simcoe Silly. The brothers brew about 80 different beers; most of these beers are small batches made for annual events. Kuhnhennโs is also known for brewing seasonal and experimental strong beers.
Kuhnhenn Brewing Co. won a gold medal at the a World a Beer Cup for DRIPA (Double Rice IPA).
A satellite brewery (larger than the original, and with increased bottling capacity) has opened at 36000 Groesbeck Highway Clinton Township, Michigan 48035.

Bottle from Tavour. Pours clear dark brown with a small creamy tan head that persisted. Aroma of ginger and treacle. Arguably full bodied. Not dry, but it's only semi-sweet. Lots of ginger, a fair amount of treacle, some dark roasty malt, and then some bourbon/vanilla. With all that it's a bit bready. Quite nice. Love ginger.

1/III/25 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle @ Belgian Beer Geek Gathering (2025 Winter/Spring edition), BB: n/a, 2014 vintage (?) (2025-173) Thanks to Sebletitje for sharing the bottle!
Pretty clear pale pinkish yellow mead, no head. Aroma: very oxidized, a bit earthy, more oxidation, sugary impression MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet and sugary up front, honey, pretty oxidized, alcohol, very sweet, soft acidity, more honey. Not getting much banana, hazelnuts or maple syrup tbh. Aftertaste: a little bitter, sugary, lots of honey, more oxidation, honey, apples, apple juice.

Boat loads of fruit in the aroma. Pineapple, banana, cloves, apples, plums, and raisins. The flavor simore of the same with some pepperiness from the alcohol, and a touch of funk. This is quite a complex beer, i like it!

this was a sweet, cloying malt bomb! Loads of dark fruits, plums, cherries, and dark burnt brown sugar. The flavor was just crazy sweet, cloyingly sweet. Not very enjoyable, not sure i could drink a whole bottle.

From a bottle at the mondiale. Deep ruby pour with no head. Thick sweet boozy hop aroma. Boozy bready aroma also, with alot of nutty malts. This is moreof a boozy over malted barley wine. The ops are there but are getting beat up by the booze. This is a mess of a beer. To me it seemed like a sugary boozy mess.

A monster imperial stout!
Thick syrupy, boozy, and loaded with huge roasted malts, and espresso. The bitterness just takes over and coats your palate, and only the strongest flavors get through. Some coffee, and touches of soy sauce. This is a beer not to be messed with, sip and enjoy.
