Description
The microbrewery is founded by Achilles Van de Moer on the passion for special beers. After 7 years of trials with different beers, the decision to start a microbrewery in Itegem was made in 1999. The brand name of beers is “Serafijn”. All beers are high fermentation brews, with second fermentation in the bottle. Most of the beers are contract brewed, but some of them are also brewed at their own location.
In 2015 Achilles became part of Caupona bvba (of the Prik & Tik stores in Heist-op-den-Berg and Herselt). The brewery is now called ''Brouwerij Serafijn.'' That is the new company in Heist that houses the Serafijn beers. The former microbrewery in Itegem has been dismantled.
The beer is now brewed at the Pirlot brewery in Zandhoven.

Aroma: Honey and sweet malts
Taste: Sweet malts, sweet caramel and spices
Ok, very sweet. Not worth the steep price. Glad this was shared with Doug and others.

Bottled@Tuulensuu, Tampere. Deep amber colour, small off-white foamy head. Aroma is caramel, mild alcohol and some spices. Flavour is spices, liquorice, mild toffee and some slight sweet alcohol as well. Flavour is rather pleasant compared to the aroma.

17/08/2011 33cl bottle @ De Karper (Gent) (2011-401)
Cloudy amber coloured beer, creamy yellowish head, stable and adhesive. Aroma: fruity, candi sugar, very malty, bit dusty, some almonds. MF: ok carbon, full body, bit creamy. Taste: very malty, some candi sugar, bit of spices, orange peel, bit of hops. Aftertaste: ripe fruits, some citrus, hops, peaches. Surprised at the low scores, we were with a lot of beer geeks and most of us liked it. Maybe it has aged quite a bit of course, didn't get to see the bottle.

Don’t like spicy and herbal, but it is indeed present in this beer, though not as much as I feared. The smell is still average and the taste fair, so not that bad.

Bottle. Pours cloudy gold. White head. Nose and taste of yeast, lemon, apple and light breads. Taste has some sheet metal notes in it, which is a bit off putting. Could be a bad bottle? Medium body.

Sort of ruby colour, lot’s of yeast particles though. Smells sweet, weird fruits and lots of ginger. Tastes sweet, dry, fruity and heavy. Quite a dry beer with lots of co2. Too much for me.
