On cask at Stougies and Stouts at the Dunedin brewery. It pours rutty – cherry – sort of brown with copper edges and tan head. The aroma is a sweet mix of caramel, nuttiness and lightly roasted malts. The aroma is a little on the light side making it difficult to discern. The taste begins sweet with malts and then some chocolate before caramel malts run right through the middle. By midway I get a solid nutty note joining the fun and aiding the experience toward closure. Into the finish and after taste roasty malt astringency dries it out to become nearly even with the load of malt and caramel malt sweetness creating a pleasing finish.

Revised rating, bottle
Thanks to Diego for this one! Extra black and inky. Very dark head. You aren’t going to see through this. The aroma is crazy - milk chocolate, ancho and alcohol. Big and brash. On the palate, this is a rich imperial stout, very thick, with a great ancho and chocolate accent. Fun stuff.
Original rating, draught at the brewery. Extra black body with a rich dark brown head. Complex aroma - chocolate, tobacco, light ancho and dark fruit. Tastes like beer candy - ancho, lots of dark fruit, rich coffee, intense dark sugars, creamy black malts, cherries. There are so many layers to this it’s scary. A full value champion. 8-5-9-5-18 = 4.5

Pours clear deep gold with short lived bright white head. The aroma is grainy malt goodness with an equal level of tasty corn kernels followed by just a bit of floral hops. The taste is full flavored yet smooth and refreshing with near equal strength notes of floral hops, creamed corn and grainy malts. It gets a bit earthy into the finish.

Two words describe this beer best, YUM. Well, maybe one word. But its yum squared. It pours very dark with light brown head. Good gravy, the aroma is amazing. It is full of robust rich dark roasted coffee beans that nearly bring me to my knees. Wow. Behind that are notes of dark chocolate and a touch of heavy cream. The flavor does not disappoint. I love the full rich decadent yummy very dark roasted coffee. Too many coffee flavored beers just smell and taste like Folgers crystal, meh. This beer has the goods with mouth watering espresso like coffee beans that I need to find and start making coffee with as soon as possible. Like the aroma there are supporting notes in the background like velvety dark chocolate mixing with a mildly drying lactose sensation that play together in harmony with the bold coffee notes. Wow.

Pours brown with red to deep pink hues and off white head. The aroma is a medley of winter like spices and herbs to go along with lighter notes of chocolate and varied roasted malts. The taste begins with some fruity notes like ripe cherries and a hint of sweet red delicious apples to go along with varied winter spices that are fairly bold and mingling nicely with the other notes. In the background is a layer of chocolate and roasted malts. This isnt a big heavy Christmas beer but perfect for lots of flavor and sessionability around the holidays. I guess what Im saying is the body seems thin but it works very well for me. A terrific beer to enjoy while preparing a big holiday meal.

Pours deep dark used motor oil with thin brown head. It has dark chocolate legs nearly staining the glass as I swirl the brew around. It has a moderately strength complex aroma of rich dark chocolate, vanilla, molasses, vegetable smelling hot spices and more chocolate. The taste is full of yummy rich dark chocolate. To start out the flavor experience it seems a little like a rich creamy dark chocolate milk shake with mild amounts of vanilla, molasses and tasty toastiness. The chili spices are meek and only at the just noticeable level for me. The chili spices could certainly use a bigger presence in the taste as well as the nose. The next sampling a few weeks later showed larger aromatic and flavor notes coming from the chili peppers. Even still, if they were to be a little bolder in the flavor profile it would be very interesting to experience. It is really damn good as is.

Pours hazy gold with straw highlights and white head. The aroma is hay, wet hay, yeastiness, grapes, apricots and dewy meadow. Yum. The taste is much the same with some malts moving to hay along with fruitiness from grapes, pears and then fruity tartness. In the background I get mild yet chewy discarded athletic socks. It ends pretty dry and very refreshing. I would sure like to get another try at this.

Pours orange with viscosity and quickly dissipating tan head. The aroma is huge thick rich pumpkin goodness. Smells like a slice of fresh baked pie. Around the edges of the aroma are notes of graham crackers and cinnamon. It smells just amazing. The taste is just like the nose with solid fresh tasty pumpkin with cinnamon spice and pie crust mixing to create a graham cracker sensation. The alcohol presence hits midway and thins it out some. It ends on the dry side with nice rich pumpkin and spices lingering deep into the after taste. This is what I want a pumpkin beer to both smell and taste like. WOW!!!

Great name for this beer. Kudos tpd975. Pours deep dark brown with mocha head. The aroma is sweet with molasses and then moving to smooth roastiness. The taste is big with heavy oversized nuts, or nuttiness, moving toward rich roasted malts and a level or two of near burnt malts. This is thick and rich and bold with a cornucopia of malts coming in seamlessly from all directions with a mesa of hops that will not be ignored. Yummy imperial Brown Ale.

Pours clear gold with copper core and white head. The aroma is full of wheat notes and fruity guava goodness. The taste is very nice with a pulse of guava fruit that fades away into the finish. On the non fruit side of the flavor wheat takes hold right away and slowly gives some ground to the roasted and nutty sensation. Great flavors creating a very sessionable brew.
