Growler with much thanks to an unidentified source (who surely knows who he is.) Dark as the Black Road itself, this has a slowly forming dark tan head. Aromas are weak at first...a bit of smokey peat and a little hot pepper are all that are there. As it warms, the cocoa and vanilla start to come out of the shadows and challenge the others for control. Flavor is darn good... and I mean darn good. It is heavy chocolate maltiness with almost the thickness and consistency of chocolate milk. Roasted malt is all over the place and then, gently pricking the tastebuds comes a little bit of pepper that comes and goes... at times stronger at times weaker. According to my sources this batch doesn’t have the most pronounced hotness, and I do wish it came through a little more. Still... I’m considering moving to Tampa to be closer to the holy fountain.

Had it on draft somewhere(?). Courtesy of the uber generous tpd975. Thanks man! Pours crazy hazy orange opaque with gold edges and lasting off white head. The aroma is yum with citrus notes coming from sweet orange juice, grapefruit and tangelo with a solid tropical fruitiness throughout the draw. The taste is both fundamentally solid and refreshing at the same time. I get nice rich orange juice from a combination of guava tropical fruitiness mixing with grapefruit and orange peel all sweetened up with a not so subtle malty sweetness. Toward the finish both the grapefruit hop bitterness and a layer of cedar coming to the surface make for a refreshing finish. The after taste seems to reveal both guava and citrus. Yum! This is an amazing Florida summer lawnmower brew. Most go for the thin watery stuff, I’ll go for more of this.

This is dark, could be the darkest stout I’ve found yet. Not just opaque black in the glass but the stream pouring from the bottle is nearly opaque, just hints at reddish brown, otherwise barely passes any light! Large foamy head, dark brown in color. Aroma is full of roast and burnt chocolate, maybe there’s a raisin or other dark fruitiness in the background. The flavor is equally roasty, with hints of a resinous wood and burnt coffee. After the first swallow, the resinous wood starts up in the nose and now seems very apparent. Drier than expected, though full bodied without a doubt. Hops are there if you concentrate, kinda spicy, lending a long bitter finish. Alcohol is not obvious, amazingly.

Growler courtesy GodofThunder. Ruby color. Loads of coffee and chocolate in the nose on this one, luxuriant almost. Sweet balanced malt flavors, a bit nutty with a backdrop of coffee. Great coffee finish with a kiss of hops and no lack of malt backbone to finish it out.
