Steeped in the unique culture and history of Tampa, Florida, Cigar City Brewing began handcrafting award-winning beer in 2009. Dark brown. Thick head. Light muddiness. Huge aroma - plums, sugar, muscovado and deep fruitiness. Smooth dark chewy malts, brown sugar, big plum character and light smoke. Excellent.

Orangey-amber with a creamy head. Big spice and lots of sugars plus cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and pumpkin. Big brown sugar with more of the same spices. Very rich. Creamy and delicious, this is as big a pumpkin ale as I’ve had and as good.

Very dark brown colour with a thick, light brown espuma. Rich aroma is full of roast, with some sweet malt. Very rich. Roasty, with tons of sweetness. This does replicate the Cuban coffee experience. Wonderful balance and assertiveness. A top flight coffee stout.

Very dark brown. Thick head. Spicy, toasty aroma - roasted red pepper, strong cedary/oaky notes and chocolate. Very oaky, with big creamy chocolate and raisin. Lots of great fruits. Nice unique crazy brew.

On cask at the Florida Brewers Guild BeerFest 2009. Pours hazy near opaque brown with copper highlights and tan head. The moderate aroma is malty sweet, roasty, a little bit of nuttiness and inviting cedar notes. The taste starts sweet with roasty malts and smooth nuttiness. By midway cedar climbs in and takes this to the finish with roasty malts, nuttiness and mild caramel. A somewhat dry mouth feel is what’s left into the after taste to go along with fading roasty malts and dwindling cedar.

Goobers, so a colleague wants me to take him over to Tailgators on the UCF campus so he can try some beer. Much to my surprise do I find this one on their draft lineup! Nutty and chocolate aroma, perhaps a hint of nuttiness or woody. Flavor is a dry cocoa with more nuttiness and a hint of wood. Finish is dry, thinner than expected but about what you might expect from some traditional English brown ales, but with quite a bit more complexity.

Draught: Poured a hazy brown with a red tint outline, the head was off white. Aroma is thick with nutty goodness, along with some caramel and roasted malt. Taste is a blend of nuts, caramel, chocolate, and sweet maltiness. Finish is smooth and very good. This is probably the best brown ale I have had!

FRO Throwdown: My first Cigar City beer, thanks Joey! And what a way to start. Deep dark brown, opaque. Essentially flat, not on purpose, but it didn’t really detract at all. Meaty? Like a good steak with worcestershire sauce, minerally/sea salt, burnt caramelized steak bits, black pepper, woody, roasty, peppery. Absolutely wild.
