Description
Black Bear Microbrewery is a family owned distributing craft brewery and tap room. Our beers are available on draft at many bars and restaurants across the state of Maine as well as at the brewery tap room.

Located in the heart of downtown, at 19 Mill St. Orono, Maine, we installed a 10bbl brewhouse in 2007 and began operation in 2008. In October of 2013, we opened a small tap room where we serve pints and sell Growlers. We brew a variety of beers and styles for our tap room. Get directions to the brewery and come by for a pint or just to pick up a Growler from the tap to go!

In 2025, Black Bear shut down their taproom in Orono, while selling the brand rights to Blaze Brewing, who will continue to produce their iconic beers.

Can (5/15/25) from trade with CLW--thanks, Chris! Hazy pale orange-yellow, trace sparkle, thin head with poor retention, trace lacing. Aroma is mild citrus, florals, caramel and grain. Taste is stronger citrus, tangerine, slight pineapple, background malt. Smooth, frothy texture, average carbonation, dry, yeasty, malty finish with mild bitterness. Hops are doing their best to hang in there given age. Fortunately, taste is best aspect but just OK now. Probably better when it was fresh.

16 oz can. No date code. Aroma is soft citrus, mild caramel, mild pale grain. Flavor follows with mild herb bitterness. Average body and texture. It is ok. Not much to get excited about. Good news is: no flaws or problems. Very old school APA.

12 oz draft. The flavor shows weak citrus, mild pineapple-ish, peach-ish notes. Has some sharper grapefruit peel bitterness. Light body. Certainly this is in a very difficult style to compete in.

12 oz draft. Aroma shows mild chocolate and roasted grain. Flavor follows. Body is a bot thin. It is not imperial so it gets a pass. Decent.
