Dark brown with lacy head. Aroma and flavour have a real mix of floral, resinous and fruity hop. Some toasted malts and light caramel too.

7 3 8 3 15 Draft at Flink Gegist Festival, Delft ‘18. Brown with a small tan head. Aroma of green weeds, tropical fruits, grassy note, a real mismatch of hops along with malty notes. Flavour is light moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Tap at FGF2018. Black with a light tan head. Sweet roasted chocolate malts, massive grassy hops. Moderate sweet and deep bitter, red fruit (lijsterbes probably). Medium body and sodt carbonation. This schijtlijster turned out a lot less shitty than its name suggested. Lovely. --- Beer merged from original tick of Gijtlijster on 31 Jan 2018 at 09:35 - Score: 7

Imperial stout flavoured with vanilla and coffee, bottle from a Mitra shop in the northern Netherlands, apparently a one-off from this Amsterdam brewery which I kind of sympathize with - being the nature lover that I am. Lightly and irregularly lacing, fairly thick, greyish beige head, gradually thinning to a flat pattern of 'islands' in the middle but settling as a creamy rim around the edge, crowning a black beer with hazy chestnut brown edges, visible under bright light for about 1/3 inch off the edge. Strong bouquet of indeed sweet vanilla, not too overpowering though, just elegantly hovering over a wealth of espresso and cappuccino, liquid bitter chocolate, fudge, kahlua, candied dates, haemoglobin-like iron or even a vague touch of iron shavings, toasted brown bread, blackberries, granola, subtler hints of damp earth (getting stronger and earthier with sediment), cold tea bags, old dry gingerbread and brownies, shoe polish, whisky, liquorice. Restrainedly sweetish and softly sourish onset, light fig compote, green pear and blackberry juice notes, surrounded by the old beef stock-coloured umami yet not overly so (and not very apparent in the nose either, luckily). Carbonation is 'refined' in terms of bubble size, but still a bit on the sharp side for the style, deceptively creating a lighter mouthfeel than it should have been, feeling a bit oily yet less so than would have been preferable in an imperial stout of any kind, but still filling and silky - the latter no doubt being the result of the oatmeals used. Caramelly and immediately toasted bitter malt body with very thin, iron shaving-like metallic edges, thin enough to remain acceptable; some background chocolatey properties too. The oatmeal silkiness matches well with the retronasal vanilla sweetness, which is unmistakable without (as is the case in e.g. the new Emelisse's Vanilla Ice Cream Stout) overpowering anything - and in turn blending in well with the added coffee, which provides some extra retronasal aroma, albeit on the subdued side - I could have accepted a lot more real and uplifting coffee aroma. Down below in the mouth, the coffee flavour is certainly there, mixing with the roasted 'end' bitterness of the black malt character, as is custom in any good stout. Spicy, bit leafy hop bitterness at the back, but importantly, a lot of whisky-like alcohol as well, already faintly palpable at the beginning, but clearly heating the throat as the beer goes down - yet still managing somehow to avoid unpleasant wryness. A bit too earthy in the nose and insufficiently oily in the mouth for me in spite of that velvety oatmeal effect, but other than that, this is very cleverly made - again, this bird-themed brewing project does not disappoint. The vanilla is clear enough to highlight the whole yet not so strong that it overpowers the other details of this beer, but the coffee could perhaps have been a tad more outspoken, in an aromatic way. Clever, very solid stout, a bit old school in its general make-up, but then at the same time up to date by the vanilla addition. Lovely!

Bottle shared with Inoven. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized tan head. Aroma is malts, dark malts, milk chocolate, cocoa, lightly coffee hints. Taste malts, cocoa powder, chocolate, a bit sweet, softly bitter, cocoa powder light bitter finish. Decent body and carbonation. Solid brew but a bit too powdery for me to really like it. Decent though.

Flesje gedeeld door Benzai. Zwart bier met stevig beige schuim. Aroma van koffie chocolade. Smaak van chocolade, koffie en vanille en ook is de smaak zoet. Nasmaak is iets bitter.

Bottle @ home. Hazy yellow color, medium sized white head. Smell and taste wheat, lightly butter, a bit dusty, slightly a soft bitter hint in the finish. Average body and carbonation. Meh, don't like it very much.
