Description
Crafted Artisan Meadery was launched in 2012 in Akron, Ohio with a dedication to producing highly drinkable, modern mead. We take the pre-conceived notion of what mead “is” and throw it out the window by creating mead styles that push the envelope of the category. Gose-inspired Mead? Why not! Bourbon-Barrel Bananas Foster Mead? Sure! Mead that isn’t so sweet that it requires diabetes screening after consumption? You got it!
We believe in creativity over tradition. We believe that the quality of the liquid inside our bottles and behind our labels is the most important thing to our customers. We believe you shouldn’t have to donate plasma to afford a great bottle of mead. We believe that opening the door to the mead category to as many people as possible is why we exist and we’re having a blast doing it! We do not produce beer, grape wine or cider. We make modern mead for everyone.

Sample at the tasting room during the National Mead Day Release! on 08/03/2019. Clear pinkish read color with a thin pinkish-white head that burns away quickly to a sparse film. Spots of legs and lacing. Aroma of raspberry, honey and cherry. Medium body with flavors of mildly tart raspberry, apple, honey and cherry. The finish is fruity with a raspberry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Fantastic! Tart red/green apple/fruit peel/cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice/honey/graham cracker/white sugar. Semisweet/semicrisp carb. Lingering acid/tang/spice drying. No astringent. Refreshingly smooth. Perfectly balanced honey/spice flavors. Spot on stuff!

This Mead is a clear pale straw-gold color with a nil head and sticky legs on the glass. The aroma consists of honey, bourbon, coffee and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, bourbon, coffee and floral honey. The finish is sweet with a bourbon-infused vanilla mocha aftertaste. Good Mead all around.

(Thanks, Jeremy JStax) Bottle. A- Slightly tart, fruity. A- Yellow color, clear liquid, no head. T- Guava, fruity, mild honey. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, sweet finish. O- A great mead. The guava provides more of the flavor and the passion fruit more of the tartness. I do wish the honey was more forward but overall, it blends well.

(Thanks, Jeremy JStax) Bottle. A- Salt, coriander. A- Clear color, clear liquid, no head. T- Salt, coriander, mild tartness. P- Light body, average texture, high carbonation, refreshing finish. O- This is a thirst quencher for sure. Shockingly the passion fruit flavor only adds a general tartness and the flavor is overtaken by the coriander. Good stuff but would be great if the passion fruit was stronger.

(Thanks, Jeremy JStax) Bottle. A- Figs, sweet. A- Mahogany color, clear liquid, no head. T- Figs, honey, lingering walnut, medium sweetness. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- Outstanding stuff this is. I love figs and have loved the Crafted still meads so what a beautiful combo this is. The fig really does overpower everything but that is okay with me. I wish the honey was a little more pronounced and I enjoy the lingering black walnut flavor on the very end of the finish. Nice stuff. Would love to stock up on it. Easily the best mead I've ever had.

(Thanks, Jeremy JStax) Bottle. A- Earthy, ashy, coffee grounds. A- Yellow color, clear liquid, no head. T- Coffee, mild sweetness, cream cheese. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, astringent finish. O- I do actually get a cream cheese flavor in here but the nose is too earthy vegetal coffee for me. Wanted a much sweeter dessert like flavor from this but just didn't get it. Much prefer the still meads.
