Description
Sketchbook was founded in 2014 by homebrewers Cesar Marron and Shawn Decker, who were passionate about starting a microbrewery right in the thick of their remarkable hometown. We brew a wide range of historical and adventurous beer styles. Our work is driven by a love of quality in food and beer, a commitment to sustainable local production, and a lot of DIY geeky-ness.
First opened to the public on November 21, 2014, Sketchbook has come a long way from our early days filling growlers from our alley brewery. Right from the beginning we embraced our community-supported model, and now our 400+ members keep us on our toes—checking out new beers as if they were part of the family.
Sketchbook opened our Tap Room in April of 2016 at 821 Chicago Ave., Evanston. This intimate space reflects our roots and our values, and is a haven for re-use fans, with a bar surround fashioned from 19th century flooring, and bar and table tops from old bowling alley lanes. Our taproom is focused on conversation, weekly live music, and of course great beer - generally 12+ styles on tap.
In 2017 and 2018, Sketchbook is expanding out of the taproom and out of Evanston. Look for us in cans and on draft around Chicagoland.

Can shared by Jeff, thanks! Pours a cloudy yellow orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges quickly. Aroma has light citrus and a bit of flora with a bit sweet grains and papaya underlying. Flavor has slightly sharp citrus, light flora and some papaya with a hint of sweet grains.

Taster at Orange & Brew. Another straight ahead Impy Stout. A mild nose, and perhaps that's my issue. As the last beer in my flight, it's still showing a little bit of tan head after several minutes. Taste has clean dark malt with little roastiness. Nice and smooth compared to some of the other beers. Alcohol is surprisingly not that apparent, considering I've now finished the equivalent of 20 oz. of stout.

16 oz. can from Trader Joe's packaged by Great Central Brewing. Pours a more orange body than the Insufficient Clearance. A nice spongy pile of foam on top, too. Nose is kind of mild, just a nice dose of citrus and pine resin. The malt pushes to the front of the palate first, a bit thick, but matched by a smoother hop profile than I've come to expect. It's pretty easy to drink down. Maybe not a HopSlam, but very nice in its own right.

16 oz. can from Trader Joe's, contract-brewed at Great Central Brewing. Yes, a very cloudy whitish yellow, with a sudsy white head. Smell is full of tropical fruit with a side of pine resin. Doughy, sweet malt stands up to the hops. Certainly an olfactory and gustatory delight.
