Description
Orono Brewing Company opened with a bang on NYE 2014 and ever since then we’ve been doing exactly what we want to do: brewing the best beer we possibly can and sharing it with friends. We love beer and we love bringing people together. We believe in paying attention to every detail, to collaboration and evolution, and to sharing the OBC experience with our growing community. It all starts with our small, tight-knit production team led by co-owner Asa Marsh-Sachs. Asa combines the experiential education and creativity of nearly a decade spent running home-brew stores with a deep dedication to running a top tier production brewery. He’s built an all-start team and together they weave the art and science of brewing together masterfully.

16 oz. can. Aroma is a little pine, light roast. Flavor has roasted malt with a bit of bitter chocolate with pine notes in the finish. Been a while since I’ve had a new black IPA. I really enjoy the style and wish they were brewed a little more frequently.

Bottle shared by Tom, thanks! Pours a hazy earthy gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has slightly tart berries with some creamy sweet grains backing underlying. Flavor has dry and slightly tart citrus and berries with a bit of sweet grains in the finish.

16 oz. can from Bier Cellar, Portland, Maine. Pours a cloudy yellow color with a large white head and excellent retention. Good lacing too. Light lemony aroma. The taste is very mellow, like a regular pale lager with a tiny bit of lemon and honey mixed in. Less grainy than most cream ales. Medium-light body. Low carbonation, for the style. Not bitter. Not your typical cream ale, but enjoyable.

Draught at The Jeffery: pours hazy yellow orange with a white head. Aroma is grapefruity, biscuity. Taste is citrus, maybe a tropical note or two. Slightly unrefined at the end. Fine.

Can (2/2/22) from The Beer Store, Nashua. It's an opaque black (dark brown at the bottom of the glass) with light sparkle, finger-width light brown head with fair retention and few rings of lacing. Aroma is strong roasted, lightly earthy malt; bit of cake and hint of vanilla. Taste is strong roasted malt (slightly to the burnt side), cake, less strong chocolate, vanilla and lactose. Mouthfeel is full bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, the strong roast quality works a bit against the sweet Whoopie Pie. Close but no cigar.
