Gaylord location, from a fresh growler. Straw-golden body, thick off-white head. Soapy wet hay aroma with hints of tart raspberry, but not dominant or overwhelming. Grassy, earthy body with that same wet hay characteristic, light sweetness with subdued raspberry notes. Thin-bodied, light. Bitter earthy aftertaste. The different elements don’t seem to come together too well.

Gaylord location, from a fresh growler. Deep orange-red body, medium off-white head. Nice earthy, peppery, perfumey hops aroma, bready. Earthy, biscuity, toasty body with emphasis on the floral, perfumey hops. Rather thin-bodied and light-flavored. Decent.

2004 MSBF draught. Listed as a 2001 Belgian. Being a sucker for vintage beers, I happily gave this one a try. Pours a soft yellow gold, not so much hazy as it was transluscent. Small white head. Smells of sweet bananas, alcohol, sugary malt and light citrus. Flavor is lightly syrupy, giving a medium to medium full body. Palate is smooth and fluid, quite drinkable. Low carbonation and a big maltiness make this one quite sweet as mentioned by many others here, but I found this one to still be solid on the basic flavor. Though I much prefer perfumy, crisp, yeasty alcoholic trippels to the sweet, softer fruitier ones, I still enjoyed this one. Belgian yeast is noticeable, candi sugar in abundance with lots of golden fruit (sweet ripe pears, bananas, apricots, peaches). Not a beer that makes you ponder its complexities as you drink it, but a good drinkable rendition, I thought.

This time I will most certainly go against the grain. I really liked this beer. Pale amber. Lightly acidic toffee aroma. Soft, mature and with mightly maltiness. Sweet and big, but still discrete. Notes of berries. Flavourful and subtle.
