Since 1926, brewing has no longer been a matter of chance at Bénifontaine, but rather is an art which has been passed down from generation to generation. From microbrewery to family business, Castelain Brewery has had a loyal following thanks to its artisanal beers and its respect for tradition. Thoroughness, patience, authenticity: these have been the key words for Castelain bières de garde and seasonal beers since the creation of the brewery.

25cl bottle from Biocoop Nice Grimaldi, France. Head is big, tan, good retention. Colour is amber to coppery, clear. Aroma is malty, vaguely fruity, toast, bit caramel. Taste is medium malty base, watery caramel, bit bready, vaguely fruity, herbal touch, soft carbonation, ok drinkable yet nothing memorable, at least bio.

Tap at the Bonte Koe, Leiden. Poured a crystal clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, floral hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a crisp, malt, mineral, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Tap at the Bonte Koe, Leiden. Poured a slightly hazy golden colour with a big, lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light yeast, light citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a crisp, malty, light citrus, flora, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. An old skool IPA.
