Cask @ GBBF 09, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear medium yellow orange color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, straw, caramel, apple notes, light hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. Draught. Clear coppery brown, good thick white head. Slightly tangy aroma, maybe apples. Creamy body with medium carbonation. Fairly tangy fruity foretaste with finish that is moderately bitter and has a malty marmitey lingering taste. Nice beer.

Pale hazy yellow with a small white head. Slightly dusty, fruity aroma with a little citrus. Dry and fruity flavour with decent hops.

Bottled. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is grass, grains, wood and some notes of cardboard. Flavour is cardboard, grains, wood and some hints of butter.

Cask@GBBF. Pale amber color, small white head. Toffee, diacetyl in the nose. Rusty malty flavor, some caramel. Woody hops in the aftertaste.

[Cask at the Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren] It was interesting to compare this side-by-side against Otter Bitter. This one’s a marginally darker amber colour but still has a slight, lasting white head. There’s a slight effervescence that the Bitter lacks, and a stronger aroma of hay. The straw and earth flavours are still there but in this beer are masked a little by a dose of brown sugar. This sweet stickiness ruins the mouthfeel a little and means that the Ale lacks some of the refreshment - and for me the enjoyment - of its lighter cousin.

[Cask at Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren on 9/7/2009] Amber, slight white head. Very smooth indeed. A straw, earth and farmyard taste reminiscent of Wadworth’s beers will not be to everyone’s liking, but there’s no denying that this packs in a lot of flavour considering the low ABV. A good bitterness in the finish makes this a light yet tasty and refreshing session ale - it grew on me the more I had. 5/3/7/4/13. [Re-rate - cask at Merry Monk, Monkton Heathfield, nr Taunton on 11/2/2011] Amber, slight white head. Rich, sweet and fruity. Surprisingly different to previous sample, but still very flavoursome for ABV.

Bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a finger or so of foamy head. Aromas are crisp hops and bread. Hops presence is bitter English ESB type hops with just a little edge of pine. Flavor is weak on hops. Bread, grain dust and caramel all dominate with a bit of bittering hops pulling up the finish.

Cask at JDW Standing order Edinburgh ... crisp amber ... thin creamy head ... bright grapefruit hop nose ... quite a powerfull hop ... medium grapefruit bitterness ... little grassy in linger cask at hyde tavern ... copper ... light white lacing ... soft mellow toffee fruits ... juicy malt ... light smoky malt ... 3.7 nice

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Straw with a loose white head; citrus and honey aroma; wheaty body with some digestive biscuit flavours; lasting gentle bitterness. OK.
