On tap at Apex. Pours black with a thick beige nitro head. Aroma has lots of bourbon and roasted malts. The bourbon has been very well-integrated with the roasted malt flavours. Smooth nitro mouthfeel. This works really well.

Time to sample a 12 oz can of blessedly named West Coast IPA. I’m using a snifter for tonight’s tasting, the tab is lifted and I pour. A pleasant orange-gold body topped by a barely-there skim of minute, white bubbles. I get a nose of hops, apricots and grain, all nice. The taste is mostly straightforward, old school IPA. Very hoppy, white bread, a bit of honey sweetness, cedar, malt and paper. More bitter than sweet, fine by me. What you see is what you get here.

Ever so slightly hazy beautiful honey coloured body with a nice two centimetre tall off-white glowing head all above millions of fast-rising bubbles. Aroma of honey, flowers, alcohol, light grain and a kick of grass with some additional caster sugar sweetness here, too. Medium to Full-bodied; Fairly astringent, dry, biscuity, slightly grainy flavours show at first with a pretty noticeable astringency from alcohol and alpha acids from the hops here at the finish. Aftertaste is deep, very bitter, but helped out due to the bigger malt backbone and of course, the sweetness and quite pungent residual sugars here, but the strong alcohol is still a factor, too. Overall, a strong, pungent, robust and filling beer, full of alcohol, dryness and a ton of honey and sugars. Nice to try - pretty old-school, but the balance is done right and the rich sugars really come through. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Total Wine in Newport News, Virginia on 20-November-2022 for US$1,99 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 17-May-2023.

Can from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear brown with a creamy tan head. Malty aroma. Perhaps a coffee note. Not quite med body. Flavor is roasty malty with some hop I can't place. Fairly dry and pleasingly bitter. For a low calory beer it's pretty good.
