Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

33 cl bottle @ home. Batch #073: BBE 13.11.2015
Aroma has sweet malty tones, resin and biscuits. Also sweet malty tones. Flavour has sweet fruit candy, caramel and toffee. Flavour has tickling hops, nettles, some menthol, mint and hoppy tones. The sweetness is nice but I dislike the mint & menthol here.

33 cl bottle @ home. Batch #070: bottled 24.01.2015
Aroma has fruity hops, pineapple juice and some caramel tones. Flavour has grapefruity hops, pineapple juice, caramel and mild minerals & grassy tones. Quite nice drinkability for 12% – and alcohol does not come through. What witchcraft is this?

330ml bottle, thanks Marduk

Pours clear dark orange with a tiny head. Aroma of caramely malts, toffee, fruity hops, citrus, pine, resin and hints of syrup. Taste is heavy, sweetish and massively hoppy with some fruity notes, booze, crisp hops, caramel, citrus, pine, grapefruit, resin and lemon. Finish is lingering bitter, massively hoppy, heavy and slightly boozy with some warming alcohol, caramely malts, toffee, syrup and loads of pine, citrus, grapefruit, lemon and resin. Heavy. Not quite as balanced as the original, but still very tasty. Leaves a nice hoppy feel to your mouth.

Tap at Brewdog Helsinki, Helsinki. Colour is clear brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Grain, dark fruits, dry fruits, raisins, warming alcohol, fresh hops, malts. Hints of booziness but one of the best Estonian beers so far. I especially like this bready maltiness. Aroma also superb.

Bottle at home, 5th June 15. Pours a horrible rising fizzy head. Aroma is tar and liquorice, vinous, dark chocolate. Taste is woody soaked barrel, vinous, fruity, light, some dark fruit, tobacco, slight leather really good. Over carbonated for the style, but overall a nice beer
