Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.
We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

Many thanks to rosenbergh for this beer! Great fresh smooth fruity beginning. Lots of floral hops. Mango, Orange, smooth fresh. Only hints of pine there, not too sticky. Mainly on the fruity side. The aftertaste is moderate bitter and not too sticky. Great fresh, intense and fruity!

(Keg at OlutExpo 2015) The beer poured quite brown coloured. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had spiciness and roastedness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, spices, roastedness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A decent pumpkin brew in which there weren’t too much spices.

Black with soapy head. Flavour has lots of raw, sugary sweetness. It’s a pleasant rum sweetness though. Rich feel.

Single Barrel Version, tap at hopner, Tallinn. Pours black with beige head. Aroma is intense rum, sweetness, dark fruits, raisins. Flavor is sweet and bitter, dark chocolate, wood. Finish is bitter with alcohol burn. Overall: good, more barrel and rum than regular version.Earlier Rating: 6/16/2015 Total Score: 3.80,33L bottle, batch 081 (from Drink Shop, Tallinn). Pours black with light brown head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, dark chocolate, roast, alcohol, rum, vinous notes. Flavor is sweet and bitter, dark chocolate, roast, vinous notes, spicy notes, and oak. Finish is dark chocolate and dry bitter and alcohol. Overall: very good.

Black beer with a tan and creamy head with good retention. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, black ripe fruits, light coffee and licorice and caramelish sweet notes. Flavor is toasty, licorice, ripe fruit, slightly sweet. Toasty final with a light presence of alcohol in spite of its high % of ABV, light sweetness. Creamy and smoothy mouthfeel.

Draught at Bishops Arms Järntorget, October 27, during Porterveckan 2015.Pitch black color, big brownish yellow like lasting head. Hints of lacing on the glass. Sweet, liquorice, alcohol taste. Sweet, spicy aftertaste. Medium to fizzy mouthfeel, low bitterness. Sweet, light toffee, some smoke scent.
