Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

Tap @TCBW15. Pitch black, thick dense espresso head. Strong coffee aroma, roasted malt, coffee beans. This is all about the coffee. Dry finish with coffee. Flavor has sweet malt, Ash, tobacco notes and loads of coffee. Well, if u like coffee and beer this is your must brew to drink.

On tap at Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend. Close to clear golden with a lasting white head. Citrusy aroma with almost overripe grapefruit dominating, som other citrus fruits caramel and malt. Medium sweet with almost a bit strange fruit flavours, light acidity and a somewhat modest bitterness. I prefer the regular version.

Tap@ TCBW2015. Amber colored, thick white head. Blood orange fills my nostrils, candy, super juicy aroma. Flavor has grapefruit alright, but too much, hides everything else.

Draught @ Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend 2015
Lots and lots of foam. Aroma has mocha coffee, hayish tones, some truffles and hints of vanilla. Flavour has slightly bitter, cold coffee and some dark chocolate. Also slightly ashy. No CO2 on palate. Nice and smooth stuff still.

Pours nice yellow, almost clear, nice white foam. Aroma is full, fullfillingly-wheaty, broad, soft and sweet-hoppy. White stuff that you get under the orange peels. Taste has some hops, goes down smooth and feels light. This beer has this milkiness or oatmeal or something I just can’t put my finger on - but what I like. Long bitter-dry aftertaste. Good stuff.

Lightly hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and dry with a fine minerally crispness. Thin malts with a slightly bitter caramel and toffee. Smooth transition to marmalade and bitter peel. Well integrated bitter floralness. Thin malt cream before a dry finish. Bitter linger. Hangs together well, pretty drinkable.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 059 - BB 040915, at Bryggeri Helsinki, 20150313) The beer poured amber and almost clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had black currant leaves, fruitiness, nettles and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were pineapple, peach, black currant leaves, malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. Nicely balanced brew showing the characteristics of the hop.

Tap at Speakeasy, Tallinn. Pours black with light brown head. Aroma is cherry, roast, metallic notes. Flavor is sour-sweet-bitter, cherry, roast, malt, some metallic notes. Metallic notes disappear from aroma and flavor after it warms up. Overall: very nice, dangerously drinkable for the ABV. Tried the bottle version, not as good as the tap, but still nice enough. Rating: 6:5:7:4:15=3.7 This got a lot better as it aged a couple of months (at list the first batch), they clearly released it too soon. Rating updated.
