Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.
We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.
In hops we trust!

Draught @ Bryggeri Helsinki
Pours pitch black with a smooth brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, loads of licorice, dark chocolate, coffee and hints of leather . Taste is smooth, roasty and heavy with hints of sweet syrup, licorice, toffee, wood and dark chocolate. Finish is roasty, sweetish and heavy with hints of syrup, toffee and wood. A bit unbalanced.

330 ml bottle. Pours clear amber. Aroma has some overly ripened fruits, almost becoming a cider but stopping one step short. Sweet orange marmalade. Taste is full of mango, passion fruit and ripened banana. I like tropical fruits and here I get them in abundance. Fruit basket. Body is full, balancing the hop character quite nicely. Interesting beer, slow sipper as it is, I guess showcasing Nelson Sauvin at its best. Can understand why this beer is quite divisive though.

Tap @ Bryggeri Helsinki. Deep amber, thin white head. Herbal on the nose, white peppery, pine. Stuffy. Flavor has pine, caramel, gooseberries. Stuffy, heavy stuff. Bitter, but on the sweeter side. Slight disappointment.

33cl bottle. Poured black with a thin brown head. Sweet, soy sauce, roasted aroma. Flavor has suryp sweetness, soy sauce, soaked plums. I am not a fan of this type of IS, way too sweet for me.

Draught @ Bryggeri Helsinki. Aroma as strong strawberry jam notes and quite nothing else. Flavour has somewhat tart strawberries, some grapefruit, grainy malt and hints of cereal. Finishes with lingering herbal bitterness. Too much strawberries here and palate is a bit too sticky.

33 cl bottle @ Bryggeri Helsinki, BBE 22.12.2015. Aroma has licorice, rubbery tones, soy sauce and hints of hay. Flavour has sweet licorice tones, some peaty whisky and hints of rubber. Also some soy sauce notes. Finishes with non-disturbing alcohol. Nice slow sipper, although a tad too sweet.

Tap @ Baltic craft beer winter assembly "METENIS". Cloudy orange color with white foam. Excellent aroma a lot of grapefruits and other citrus fruits. The taste is very fresh and drinkable, real grapefruit juice, just more delicious, with grape and hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Great beer.
