Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

0,33L bottle, batch 028. Pours dark brown-black with light brown head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is roast, sweetness, sour notes, some alcohol, some smoke and coffee. Flavor is roast, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, nuts, fruity citric notes. Finish is long coffee-roast bitter. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: great brew. Rating 7:4:8:4:15=3.8 Batch 158, rated 02.01.2016. Feels very hot, a lot of alcohol coming through in aroma and flavor, more intense roast, less citrus, no nuts. Not sure why it is so highly rated now, was better when I tried the 028 batch. New bottle rating: 6:4:7:3:14=3.4 Maybe not a good batch or it just too fresh (may taste better after couple of months), still brewery released it in this state so it’s fair to rate it, new rating is between these 2. Will have tasting of aged versions soon and update rating accordingly. Batch 028, BB 04.05.15, rated 23.01.2018. This is hitting peak right now. Wasn't impressed with this batch in 12.2016 when we opend the bottle, but this is woah at the moment. 7:4:9:5:14=4.4
