Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.
We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.
In hops we trust!

BOTTLE 33 CL. Big sweet milky chocolate aroma, chocolate liqueur, vanilla, soft and warm. The flavour is also big, sweet but not over the top, mostly malty not fruity, moderate roast, moderate hop bitterness. The finish is sweet with mild astringent and alcoholic notes.

33 cl bottle @ Bier-Bier. Batch #038: BBE 12.06.2015. Aroma is a bit musty with sour cream and milky tones. Also some citrus. Flavour has lots of sour cream and some green apples. Finishes watery with milky tones. Also some metallic vibes. Could be more aggressive.

0,33L bottle, batch 053, BB 09.08.15 (from Tallinna Kaubamaja). Pours amber with off-white head. The small head stays. Aroma is tropical fruits, mango, burnt sugar, caramel candy. Flavor is sweet and bitter, caramel, tropical fruits, citrus, candy. Finish is sweet and dry-piney bitter. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: nice one. Rating: 8:4:7:3:14=3.6 (Rated 14.02.2015) Batch 322, bb 17.04.17 (new recipe). Looks about the same. Aroma is harsher, bit farty, mango, citrus. Flavor is sweet and bitter, citrus, caramel, booze, some vegetables. Finish is citric-dry bitter. Drinkability isn’t very good, feels harsh and unbalanced. Like it a lot less than the previous version. Rating: 6:4:6:3:10=2.9 First batch 2.5 years later. Still good, maybe even more than 3.6. It has turned into kind of barley wineish brew. Too bad I don’t have another bottle, I think this could be turn into something beautiful with some more years.

33 cl bottle @ Bier-Bier. Batch #33: BBE 25.11.2015. Aroma has cocoa abd strong salty licorice tones. Flavour has pleasant mocha tones, salty licorice, herbs and hints of dark chocolate. Better than the old version, I like the coffee tones here. They were not present there.

33cl bottle at Art Café, Rakvere. Pours clear deep amber with an off-white head. Strong hoppy and fruity aroma with notes of tropical fruits with pine, herbs, caramel and malt. Sweet and fruity, but well balanced and somewhat smooth with a nice a bitter finish. Tasty and well crafted, but I guess Nelson Sauvin is not my favourite hop, but it?s still a delicious DIPA!

Bottle thanks to Pohjala Chris. Appearance - opaque black and there’s a lovely fawn head. Nose - tar, savoury notes, like roasted nuts, perhaps even truffles. Light marzipan note. A touch of salt/soy too. Taste - completely different as it’s sweet. Molasses or syrup, then interesting tangy blackcurrant booze note on the back. The tar comes back on the finish in a sort of blackjack form. Palate - full bodied with a big syrupy yet tangy middle section and the finish is very long and although sweet, it manages some sort of balance in amongst all the stickiness. Overall - thanks Chris! A lovely deep, complex beer!

Leicht trübe orangegelbe Farbe, sehr viel leicht beiger Schaum.
