Description
The founder of the brewery was a doctor in medicine, Louis Nevejan.

We have recently found papers in the archives stating that the first building dates from 1835 AD. Once it was both a brewery and distillery. The founder died in 1882 and the brewery was sold to Alouis Costenoble. The family brewed for three generations until 1980 when the brewery stopped.

Beer brands included COQ PILS OUD BRUIN & COSMOS. In Esen there were six breweries (all small and part-time) and two distilleries. The actual brewer is doing historical research on West-Flanders breweries since 1900 AD, and has got the 'GOLDEN HAMMER' Trophy, a two yearly award for historic research on breweries. This was attributed by vzw 't Hamerken in Bruges on March 27, 2000 AD

My Christmas Eve tipple for the last 30+ years, the date on the cap 2021 xx, I believe this was the second batch brewed. Taste is tart, slightly sour and vinous. Definitely not living up to previous years and the second bottle was returned to the cellar in the hope that it will improve a little by next year.

Just about perfect. The Amarone barrel turns this into a Flanders red. Deep red notes, tart and vinous. Candy licorice. The epitome of balance.

Bottle from Geers. Hazy blond colour, white foam. Vinous nose, tart, a bit lemony, notes of caramel, wood, funky, even a bit bready. Taste has fruity sweetness, some caramel, funky and vinous aftertaste. Good!

750ml job. As Alengrin mentioned below this is a different beer, but I can’t be arsed adding a new one for it to never get verified as per every other Belgian bev that gets added on here. And who gives a shit anyway. Lightly hazed ginger. Slim dense leggy lacing white foam. Nose has red wine dregs. Oak. Brett. Whiff of liquorice. Raisins. Sultanas. Taste has plenty of everything. Sweet grape. Tangy oak. Bitter hop and citrus peel. Smooth and unputdownable. Never ever 12%. Tangy oaky fruity finish. Envisaged sipping this for an hour or so. Yeah that didn’t happen.
