Mushroom smell. Sweetish, some Marsala, very low character, a bit fruity, but also dusty; no apparent oxidization though.

Murky brown color. Quite strong notes of tobacco, old wood furniture, nuts, sugarcane, mild raisins. It’s losing some sweetness now; drier in the finish. Too oxidized, but still good.

2015-12-19, bottle, vintage 1990, 25 years old, 8% ABV, 7-4-8-3-16=38
The aroma starts showing some oxidization, but it’s also fruity. Sweet, liquorous, Marsala character, very fruity, with light acidity, and almost no bitterness.
Very interesting, still.

2013-11-19, draught at Mikkeller and Friends, Copenhagen, vintage 2010, 3 years old, 12%, 8-5-8-4-17=42
Hazy deep blond color with greenish hue; generous compact head. Belgian aroma, a bit spicy, sweet, white sugar, with subtle fruits; seems very elegant. Smooth mouthfeel, but also with a strong alcohol perception that affects it; moderately sweet malt flavor, lean though, with a clear fruity side; correct bitterness.
Chamaleontic beer, very nice. Not for everybody, got to appreciate it.

Dark amber color (very dark), hazy, with large head reducing to a small layer. The aroma is mild but elegant, with a note of wood and fruit. Good body and mouthfeel, with light residual sweetness, malt and caramel flavor; it starts developing a light woody acidity; the bitterness is quite low; the alcohol is warming.
A very good sipper, dynamic.

2013-05-02, bottle at Kulminator, Antwerp, vintage 1987, 26 years old, 8% ABV, OG 1200, 7-5-8-3
The color is dark chestnut, hazy, with some carbonation that provides a creamy head. The aroma is peculiar, raisins and parsnip/pumpkin, freshly cut ashwood. Good mouthfeel, round, with soft carbonation; the malt and caramel flavor is still rich, with a fruity side, and a very light sourness that fits well; the bitterness is very low; raisins in the final, but also a light dustiness.
After so many years, it’s still in pretty good shape.

from De Heeren Van Liedekercke; OG 1200
Bright amber color, clean, with huge head. The aroma is powerful, there are some esters, light vinegar, wood, sugar, glue, no oxidisation, and a funky touch. It still has a good body structure; the mouthfeel is round and smooth; nice malt flavor with a pleasant fruity touch; there are still quite some sugars for this age; the bitterness is expectedly low; as the alcohol may have gone up a bit, it can be perceived through a gentle warmth; there is a mild woody astringency too in the final.
Pleasant and complex, different from other vintages, with no sings of age.

Nice amber-copper color, with a few particles, and generous compact head, persistent. The aroma is deep, with the classic Belgian spicy malt, and lingering fruitiness. Full bodied, and very smooth mouthfeel; the malt flavor is rather sweet, with light fruity touch, some more spiciness and correct bitterness; very light vegetables.
Very good, sweet spicy and fruity; although the alcohol perception is a bit high.

Dark brown color with red shades; small creamy head. Light aroma of caramel and vegetables, very light cheese too. Reasonable body strength; anonymous caramel flavor, moderate residual sweetness, traces of Parmesan and rubber. Barely…

2010-12-30, bottle, vintage 2004, 6 years old, 12% ABV, 7-5-8-4-16=40
Properly stored for years, it pours the most beautiful amber color, with a medium sized frothy head, reducing to a thin but persistent layer. The aroma is mild, with some malt, spicy, light alcohol, and a nice fruity vein. The mouthfeel is very smooth, it has a good body strength, fair malt flavor supported by a mild sweetness; the alcohol is clearly perceived, but the warmth is comforting; it’s a bit spicy and lightly fruity, complex, mature and it doesn’t show signs of age. Powerful. Very good.

Vintage 2006, 1 year old, 7-5-7-4-14=37
Beautiful golden color, huge whipped head, persistent. The De Dolle yeast has turned the malt aroma into something peculiar, effervescent and fruity, with alpine flowers and a touch of juniper. Medium mouthfeel, thinned by a strong carbonation; the flavor has some dry malt and it’s really spicy. Quite strong bitterness, at the end, and the alcohol is warming the mouth. A good beer, with its originality, but it doesn’t maintain the De Dolle promise.
Vintage 1990, 17 years old, 10-5-10-4-19=48
Splendid dark amber color; big head, reducing to a thin creamy cap. Huge aroma, everlasting, of caramel, ripe fruits (plums, soaked raisins, sundried apricots), fromage à pâte molle, very light hazelnuts, Pedro Jimenez wine. Thick body, very sweet flavor, but also very elegant, with malt dominance, complemented by sweet fruity notes; even sweet tobacco and a vanilla touch. The bitterness is very low, the alcohol non existing, tonight.
A dream.
Such a beauty! This version deserves to mark my rating, even if difficult to find such bottle.

2003-07-09, vintage 1999, 4 years old, 8% ABV, 9-5-9-5-18=46
Beautiful amber color; creamy head; fine, turbulent perlage.
Strong aroma, malty, sweet; honey, lightly fruity (apricots, pineapple…); light wood and old hops.
Velvety, very good malt, perfect texture; sweet in the front, immediately corrected by a unique light sour-astringent note, similar to the Duchesse de Bourgogne but more bitter, balanced and complex.
Long final, smooth, still quite sweet.
Impressive for its deep balance; wonderful: with this one, every day is Christmas!

Tweaking of "Dulle Teve", one ingredient having been changed: instead of the usual beetsugar, cane sugar was used. This resulted in a somewhat lower ABV: 9% instead of 10%. This beer is still readily available at Erasmus tavern in Brugge. Very thick creamy head, orang-amber beer, hazy. Oxidation in the nose, cookies-biscuit (3yrs old), typical musty DDB smell, sugar + honey, and a garden-herbs aroma. Sweet taste - but less than expected. Bitterish, more than expected, blending with the musty flavour to a very balanced beer. There is some oxidation-flavour component. Thick, oily mouthfeel. Very outspoken alcohol-burn. Long honey-flavoured aftertaste, dryer than first taste. A very likeable beer, which defies its BBdate - the hotel-inn isn't fooled and still offers it on the menu.

Bottled Amber coloured with rich lively head. Dry and nicely hoppy with resiny balanced bitter finish. Complex and very tasty.

Hazy light amber color; highly carbonated, huge head. Mild aroma, sweet and spicy. The malt flavor is quite sweet and a bit spicy, very pleasant combination; it’s clearly alcoholic, with an unforgiving warming feeling. Average bitterness; possibly the bitterness has vanished a bit with time. Perfect maturity and balance for this beer.

Cloudy golden color. Nice aroma, like some white French wines. Malty; original taste, with a delicate wood note that adds a great complexity. I would like to try it aged and in a bigger corked bottle.

Golden w/ slight haze and a spreadable, whipped mousse. Dusty, yeasty, light peaches. Cheesey (poacher?) notes scare me. Lively fruits and bready...very dry.

Foxy-orange. Very slight, white head. Vineous nose, complex, like very old sherry, acetic acid, fruit. Taste is vineous again, esterish. Dried apricots and nuts. Some Brettanomyces too, 't would seem. After some time, a lactic component. Slick, oily mouthfeel. Dry. Alcohol- and acidburn. A bit nutty aftertaste, that and the esters keep flavour going for a long time. Complex is too shallow a word. Very old fortified wine procures similar flavours, similar impressions. Truly superb realisation.
