On Tap @ brewery. Clear golden color with bright white head. The vanilla jumps out at you in the aroma. The vanilla in the flavor mixes with the sweet malts to create a none beer cream soda taste. This brew was constructed to appease the none beer dinking crowd.

Bottle. Ruby colored with a light cocoa head. Light caramel aroma. Caramel malt flavor with citrus backing. Nicely balanced with a bit of chocolate. Lingering slightly sweet malts, Medium bodied.

Gold colour to orange; small, just off-white head. Very hoppy nose, dry, but with a marked ureum content. Faint flowery, citrus. Quite dry taste, some malt presence makes itself felt, but it does not really benefit the balance. The ureum is gone in the taste, but the nose keeps interfering. A bit agressive coloured malt - burning MF. Certain, not unwelcome, spritzy MF. Maybe this beer has been handicapped by the last beer tasted, a world-class IPA, but still - this one has a balance problem, IMO.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a nice off-white head. Sweet citrus malt aroma. Sweet malt and caramel flavor with lots of fruity hops - orange/apricot. Easy drinking. LIngering fruity hops. Medium bodied. Hides alcohol well. Wanted a bit more body

Bottled. Hazy reddish brown. Very roasty with strong notes of madeira. Sweet with lots of malt and distinctive sharp bourbon flavour. The woodiness goes a bit overboard, and the mouthfeel is somewhat raw. Lingering salty finish. A bit rude on first sip, but also very complex and interesting.

Draught at O’Brien’s, San Diego. Clear deep golden, near no head. Strong lycheelike hop aroma. Medium sweet with clean mouthfeel. Lycheelike hops dominate completely. The finish is really biotter and near soapy. The relative swetness in combination with a hard mouthfeel detracts a little bit from the wonderful hop profile.

Bottle. Pale amber beer with a nice white head. LIght hoppy (grapefruit) and slight caramel aroma. LIghter bodied. Some nice grapefruit, orange, and a bit of pine flavor over some sweet malt, but the lighter body takes away from this. Easy drinking, but has the potential if there was a bit more body to be better. I didn’t have the big hop aroma that others mentioned - bottle had a date of coming to the store a month before being drunk.

2005 bomber from DarkElf, consumed on 1/26/06. Peachy-copper colored beer, with some lighter straw golden tones, miniscule bubbles rising sporadically and a large and magnificently well retained foamy white head that provides ample, webby lacing. Beer has light sediment on the bottom and is bottle conditioned. The nose screams right away of a mix of tangerine, strong kiwi, light herbal notes and clean, wet, freshly cut, heavy grass (thanks to the hallertauer). The hallertauer addition does wonderful things for the complexity in the nose, as just mentioned and truly creates distinction in a style that is so difficult to do so. It’s so interesting to really smell what I perceive to be juicy kiwi. Certainly the cascade citrus is there, though not in force, with plenty of mixed (red and white) grapefruit. Ok, now I’m getting maybe a bit too abstract. The nose has a strong lasting smell to it as well, and there is no alcohol. Little malt, though what is there is light creamy caramel, bits of soft honey and grains. The flavor encompasses most of the citrus fruits, but gets more poignant with a starfruit meets lemon meets unripe tangerine sharpness. Well received in the intensely tight, miniscule bubbled carbonation that you can pick apart when pressing the liquid against the roof of your mouth. Washes exquisitely over the palate, with flecks of honey drawn across touches of crisp melon, more kiwi, tangerine and grapefruit. Hoppy and satisfying to the last drop, with a hint of fresh yeast, supple texture and no alcohol apparency whatsoever. What is a perfect IPA? Perhaps this dosent have the malt complexity and extreme hop strength/complexity to be called "perfect" but the flavor is damn near flawlessly done. Drinks like a session beer and is flavored like the best of double ipas. Thanks Stephen! 8/5/8/5/16

After how mediocre Birthday, Duet and Nelson were, I had very low expectations here. Thankfully, this was a good notch better than all three of those. Not nearly the amount of problematic acidity/resin/bitterness that those had and actually quite reserved on that, overall, given its size. Much softer malt texture, with a more easygoing hop flavor to it. That being said, this didn’t really set itself apart from the best of out there. Not hugely lush, juicy, fresh hop aromatics or flavor, despite everything being enjoyable and not overdone. Very drinkable, though, and would order it again over a lot of other IPAs.
