Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Bottle: Deep golden, unclear, smaller persistent lacy off-white head, fruity-hoppy nose; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; caramelly sweetness balances the dry hoppy finish. Very O.K..........

Bottle: Deep golden, a bit hazy, small stable lacy white head; moderate spicy-hoppy and sweet fruity-bready nose; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; short bitter-sweet finish with a certain tartness in the aftertaste. Unharmonic, not really pleasant.....

Pours ruby/copper with a quickly fading head.Nose shows rich malt with sultanas, dried figs and caramel. After swirling, some banana can be detected.Flavours are similarly rich and sweet with more dried fruit, caramel and bready malt. Finishes weakly on an oxidative note.Carbonation is too high for these flavours and cuts out the finish unnecessarily.

Originally rated August 2004. Sampled from one of their very beautiful 500ml bottle (with hops embossed in it). Poured a nice golden-amber colour with a creamy off-white head that left a thick foamy head. The majority of smell is malt, with a hint of fruits. The mouth starts off very creamy, then leads into a world of bitterness, to then finish on a smooth level. An awesome ale with character !

Biggish offwhite head. Light amber body with carbonation. Light fruity earthy toffee aroma with resiny notes. Dry-sweet earthy fruity floral taste with toffee notes. Mild mouthfeel. Light body. Dry earthy grapes and wild berries aftertaste with dusty papery notes. Fairly bitter. Nice, drinkable, and a bit unusual. (0.5 bottle, Sainsbury’s, London.)

Cool looking half liter bottle pours clear deep amber with tan head. The aroma is a pleasing mix of earthiness, fig, black licorice, chocolate and boysenberry. The taste is pretty full with licorice, earthiness, spicy hops and then becoming sweeter and sweeter with the addition of dates, boysenberry, grapes and red apple skins. Rich sweet earthy brew.
